It's hard to know what to believe, I only know what I hear from people around whittlesea. But it's good to know that the pub survived so I'm sure a lot of people did too.

Unfortunately we know several people that have been killed during the fires it always hits harder when it becomes this personal.

Worth a listen to the 3AW segment, the story also a very sad read.

My partner just asked me where could you donate clothes and furniture and food? She is quite distraught and feels very guilty that we have tv's and furniture as well as clothes that do not fit us sitting in our spare room, and yet some people only have the clothes on their backs.

Does anyone know who will accept donations like the above?

I would believe that some of these fires were started by cigarette butts and in that case it's no different to someone deliberately lighting the fires.

It's stupid enough to smoke and throw butts out anywhere, but on a TFB day and flicking one out from a car onto tinder dry grass is just despicable.

Here's a pic from my father in laws property today at Resdale, the telegraph pole was burnt to a crisp, even the half that is deep in the ground, but just have a look at the plastic rain guage ..........

Very, very terrible news. Thoughts with the families of those tragically lost. And can only express admiration of the firies. Who knows what the toll would have been without their courage.

The Marysville one shocks me, that's nuts. Got to check on a few people.
Just an observation, so don't anyone take this the wrong way; poor visibility and many cars in the vid without headlights on?! Vital to do so - tis hard to hear car engines at all above approaching fire when doing point duty.

(NSWFB and RFS units have a rear fog, inconjunction with 'the usual').

Thanks for the vid. RIP

What a tragedy, and all started by one or more idiots - I hope they find them and burn them.

Interesting about the premiers folks' house - I wonder if resources were diverted especially to save that house, or if it's just good luck; quote from the article "Victoria Premier John Brumby said one fire threatening his parents' home in Coleraine was stopped literally on their doorstep."
Resourses werent diverted to save that house.
As far as i know only one house was destroyed in that fire, which was on the property where the fire started.

My good friend lives 2k's away from the edge of the fire, i went over to help find and put out spot fires. Went over to take a look at the carnage after the smoke cleared, people have no idea how bad it is until they see such things. as far as you can see is black. and this fire isnt even as bad as the one near melbourne..

Looks like a friend of mines house is gone, and others i know have gotten out safely.

I was up there helping him get his stuff out 2 years ago when they had the fires up there and they got as close as the end of the street then, but doesnt look good now.

Appalling thing to have happen.

Up to & including last summer my brother flew a chopper for a CFA contract every year for the previous ten years.

We have posted up the Victims Appeal Phone number on the website, dig deep and help, please.

I can only imagine what these people are going through as I know how bad the Canberra fires at 4 dead and 500+ homes. It's beyond belief how bad these fires must be! :(

They are unsure if he is dead as yet but his wife has been confirmed.

What a complete disaster, the people that start these need to be tied to one of the trees that got burnt down :togo:

Word just in, former Melbourne news reader Brian Naylor has been confirmed dead.
Along with his wife Moiree.

Sad for his family as his son was killed in a light plane accident in the same area only about 12 months ago

It was reported earlier that the widow of his son and two grand children that lived opposite escaped the fire.

An update of the death toll has been confirmed at 84.
So upsetting that the toll is so high at such an early stage, god knows how many more unfortunate victims will be found in the next few days.
