But seriously, unless you have cash to burn abolt on kit would seem to be the way to go.
A turbo would also seem to be the better off-boost package after all unless you live on a race track, 99% of your time will be off boost.

Go the turbo Casper!

I have also considered the possibility of a turbo kit for my bros car but I think we will end up going the Dev5 simply because there is no sane way to get the car legal.

It has came up many times in the forums of "How to get turbo cars legal" but it just seems impossible in Vic, If anyone knows please post!

I'll be looking at a customised kit to a degree. Both the SC and the Turbo kits I'm thinking of will be customised, the turbo setup being more so but still cheaper.

This will not be a daily driver. I have no interest in fuel economy nor "peak hour traffic" drivability in the end. It will be a weekend toy.

I heard from a guy who is a calibration engineer and who worked on the upcoming AMG E63 that AMG will be moving away from Supercharging to Turbocharging for all future models. So it appears that turbo engines are the way to go.

Turbo charging makes sense. Have a Boost controllers and you can control the amount of boost to tone it down for whatever reason. Boost kick-in is alot more fun.

If the car is going to end up as a hobby car. I would go the turbo route . Is the car giong to be kept reg'od? or trailered to events.A pic of a VCT AU1 mtr supercharged.

Apparently theres a thing you can buy for the fan belt that makes a supercharger noise. That is my preferred option. Cheap, sounds good and no-one has to know. :

Thats a very basic capa kit. The setup I'm looking at is intercooled, has all the headwork etc and is rated a fair bit above the std capa setups.

turbo systems australia have a kit advertised for au 1 on their web site might be worth a look casper think i did see a au kit from this mob in a ford mag showing au2 as well, could be wrong

Sorry, you are right, it was a Vortech V1 that was going to be used. I was looking at the V2's to start with but was told the V1 is the way to go.

As for TSA, I've seen the kit, I was underwhelmed by it to be honest. There are far better setups out there.

My only concern with going forced induction on an Auto AU is the fact that at the moment, the transmission is soo ty, plus torque reduction. I know at the moment, when I floor it, my auto/ecu sits there for a second, then realises I want to go faster, then immediately kicks into 3500rpm and starts to move. Now imagine have 200rwkw (double) and it kicks in, the back is gonna fly out.

The AU auto's can easily handle 200rwkw, in fact, compared to the manual they are a huge leap ahead in strength.
When it comes to the the kick down, with 300+rwkw it wouldnt be that good an idea to floor it at about 60kph as it will hit 1st gear and traction may be an issue.
As for auto torque reduction, there is no evidence yet that it effects the I6 setups and, if it does, its effect is so minimal as to be irrelevant. Then again, in a FI setup, it might not be a bad thing.

Possibly. Certainly in stock form the auto in the AU I6 is overengineered for what the engine can use. The auto's are pretty tough really and given the I6's torque coming on later than the V8's I'd say the need for reduction simply wasnt there.

Well thats true of course. Even if the EECV does do the calc for max torque still in a six cyl ECU it hasn't been programmed to do much about it.

In the eights I believe this is different which would make sense as they do have more torque and power available at lower revs.

I still like the idea of getting a supercharger properly bolted into a full custom manifold on a I6.

It would have to really go well down low and with the right pistons and head deliver awesome power up high too.

Not going to happen on my car. Those sort of funds can come from a young guy mooching at home with mum and dad, not from me.

Good to see another I6 going the forced induction route. I was actually told today by the boss that if I sold the boat, I could whack a hairdryer on the car.

Does anyone know how the KKK trubos compare to the Garrets? I'm talking low boost here - 5 to 6PSI or thereabouts. At this low level of boost, is it worth going the extra for roller bearings, or just go standard? I want something fun (and surprising in a wagon), but still docile enough that the boss won't be doing burnouts leaving the local shops.

I believe that a KKK turbo is used in one of the Snort Performance kits. www.snortperformance.com

As to how good they are I don't know.

Porsche used to use KKK turbos didn't they? Can't be too bad...

Again, like anything else, you just need to know which model/configuration is best matched to your requirements ;)

KKK was used in Grp B rally and Porsche's of the 80's. KKK700 is good to arround 600ps, i had a KKK K27 which was good to arround the same power, however it never made the transistion onto my car.
