Any idea on the numbers of alloy diesels that are around?

It's not something I've thought about before. Who's building them?

Pretty much all euro diesels are all alloy now. MB, BMW, Audi etc.

Ugh. I was really looking forward to the radar cruise control.... Maybe it's just not compatible with the suspension or intended use I don't know. But having driven some Subarus with it, I really enjoyed it for traffic.

Correct. No AEB but it does have AEL and FLS - Auto Emergency Launch over danger with the world first FLS - Fox Landing System to see you land it every time. Probably best not to switch the FLS off as we’ve seen some do when attempting some Foxy manoeuvres.

I get that there are people that feel left out and Ford should be
addressing all of its potential high value customers.

Is that 100kg saving or total weight?? 100kg saving would be huge.

The new all alloy diesel would be similar weight to the former 2.5 petrol engine

So yes roughly 100 kg lighter and all of that weight
off front wheels, a big improvement in handling.

People like thay try to claim warranty off Ford.
The pre-aluminium body Raptors had a deliberate weak point in the chassis behind the cab
that would break when the truck was jumped over significantly large mounds like the youtube.
Customers were grizzling that their trucks should be able to do that...

I wonder if Raptor's longer and wider tray is a precursor to what
we can expect in the future Ranger line up..

Why would ford put a deliberate weak point in a chassis?

Ok just read that article and can see what you may have been talking about

Yes, it's a decent explanation and well worth th read...

Quote:
Hameedi: Basically, the core – the root cause – is that the vehicle is traveling too fast for the obstacle, and the truck is running out of travel. By a large margin. They're going too fast for the obstacle by a large margin. The frame is not the first item to yield in that condition – despite what's been theorized, the first thing when you do exceed the vehicle's travel capability [is that] you have a certain safety zone where you will hit the bump stop and nothing will happen. If you hit that same obstacle at an even faster speed, then you will yield the jounce bumper cup – that's the little piece of steel that holds the jounce bumper. If you hit that same obstacle at an even greater speed, then the next thing to go is the frame.

That energy has to be absorbed somehow, and we actually went through a fairly detailed FMEA [Failure Mode and Effects Analysis], so if you do happen to far exceed the suspension's capability, the safest thing for that vehicle is for the frame to yield. If you had an infinitely stiff frame, then what that would do is, the rear of that vehicle – the suspension – when that axle is going up so hard, so fast, it would 'donkey kick' the rear of that truck really high into the air. That's a very undesirable condition."

I do like the idea. Particularly if the new gearbox is similar weight to the existing 6speed. Would imagine this translates to Everest too.

Width of the box would also include the wider Raptor guards no?

It's an external measurement, not an internal one.

I'm still not convinced that's correct. 1743 is longer even than a RAP box outside length.

Too all you diesel hippies, if you read my posts I have stated that I HOPE that ford do a turbo petrol ranger/raptor. I never said they will. I said that it would be easy as that combination is coming in the US version. A lot easier than doing a one off for example. I HOPE they do a petrol turbo.

Years ago when ford dropped the V8 from the falcon range I hoped and hoped and hoped they would bring back a V8. Every body said they would not. They did so I bought one.

Then when everybody was buying LS1 commodores and turbo falcons I hoped and hoped and hoped that ford would make a lot more powerful V8 falcon. They did and put a supercharger on it. So I bought one.

Now all I want is a ranger/raptor with a powerful turbo petrol engine. I will hope that ford will answer my dreams again. Don’t knock me down for that. You may be right and it may never happen. All I can say is I hope your wrong.

I'm just basing this by comparing the numbers found here:

Might be the case Sphinx but try and get worn leather replaced under warranty with VW during the warranty period and you’ll be wasting your time - it won’t happen. Do the same with FORD and they’ll replace the worn item as they did with my F6......they sent it to a professional auto trimmer to do the job and was as good as when I bought her new.

Who cares anyway mate - do any of em’ do a ute like FORD??

Watched that F150 jump - saw that a while back and thought what an absolute idiot. Entertaining to watch but that’s someone who simply does not understand the limits of a vehicle.......absolute muppet.

Yes, the Everest should see a similar improvement in front end weight...

Yeah I do agree that they need to serve more of a utilitarian purpose. Still Ford does need to up its game and there is always room to grow.

As for looking at these Thai videos 2 things stand out to me:

1) Thai models seem to exclude heated seats.
2) Thai models also don't have tow receiver, and seem to only have tow hooks. I've added screenshots to show.

I really really hope that the Australian version comes with a receiver and the delete is only Thai specific.

Geezuz the guards are pumped out. I took this off a video Sphinx put up. What a weapon. Hopefully this will be the start of an off-road war between the brands. Irrespective of thoughts on the motor, no one has come to the table with anything like this in Oz’s history. The platform built around 33’s is just eye watering.
I like the diesel and would always buy the diesel for my purpose but hopefully for the petrol heads FORD will come to the party. If they don’t I think others will come to the party but only with the motor - the platform won’t be anywhere near as good as FORDS. Even the current talk and concepts from the competition only run 31” tyres - absolute joke. Will be great to see em off road.
