I finish by unscrewing the nozzle, checking the pump number, glance at the total (usually about $23) glancing at nearby pumpers of petrol clocking up to $90, walking in to pay with a great deal of satisfaction!

If you shake it more than twice you're playing with it!
I've noticed from the BA's onward if you try and top up after it clicks off you more often than not get it running down the side of the car. So after the first click I leave it.

I really don't see the point in trying to drain every last drop out. Lets say for example that the tap was at the bowser end of the hose, not the nossle end, not only would you only get like 10-20 cents worth(thats a guess), but, the poor bastard behind you has to pay for the fuel that he doesnt get, unless he too is childish and drains every last drop. Whereas, if you just put the nossle in, pull the trigger till it's full, then take the nossle out, then you don't look like a desperate loser. This is just like the fuel petition thread; if you can't afford the petrol, walk or take a bus.

As for taking it 2 cents over so you get free fuel - someone somewhere is paying for it! After a while, the servo owner realises that he isn't making any money, so he ups the price, to pay for that .02, which probably affects you more. And think about it, if you fill up once a week, 2 cents is $1.04 a year! That won't even buy a can of coke! How desperate does that make you look?

Oh My God...

I cant believe there are people there who actually say

" I shake the nozzle to get my moneys worth." or " I pay for those 2 drops " and I think these people are for real ?

So if fuel is $1.30 per litre, how much is 2 drops.... maybe .01 of a cent.

If those of you are so Tight, , then why do you drive 6 cylinders ?

I drive a 25 year old 2L celica at the mo... with paint that rubs onto your clothes if you lean on it.

So im barely even done pumping before i pull out. Sure, it ends up everywhere - but a quick rinse of water and you're good to go.

For all you shakers out there just remember that any more than 3 shakes is a pull. But on a more serious note, does it make any difference at all, I have even caught myself doing the same.

I HATE petrol on my paint. so i shake and wait a sec for any in the nozzle to drain or evaporate, tehn try and get it away from the car as quickly nd cleanly as I can.

The poll needed to have 4 options.

1. I shake because i'm a tight wad and trying to get every last cent of bonus fuel i can
2. I shake to avoid messy fuel stains on my paint
3. I wait a second for the fuel to stop flowing from the nozzle, then tilt upwards and remove from the filler
4. I pull out mid squirt and leave fuel all over my paint and the ground.

In my eyes there is quite a lot of difference between the quick "tap tap" to avoid the drips on the paint, and shaking the freaking hose dry from up above your head trying to scam every last drop you can!

Also whats with people who put $10 bucks or less of petrol in, and do it daily??!!!! Why not just fill up in 1 go! Do they think they collect bonus drips from the bulk number of fills!!!???? Sheesh!!!

You too ... it's great isn't it.
at least I don't have to ring the back to make sure the loan has approved before filling.

Some people do it because they simply can't afford to fill up all in one go. When I got my first car it was rarely filled past half way, if even up to there, I didn't have big amounts of money to fill the tank ($69 for a 60L tank of PULP as the prices were at the time) to fill it to full. So I filled it with what was adequate to get me to where I as going and back home.

Nowadays, goes from zero to full...

Ok i'll re-phrase the fill part, instead of putting 10 bucks in every 2 days, why not put 40 bucks in in 1 go. Surely people dont get paid daily. Put ya 40 in on pay day and hopefully you know you're roght til next pay day.

At that time, for me $40 was alot of money. And also, sometimes I'd not drive anywhere for 3-4 days, but need the money that would have been otherwise sitting in the petrol tank for other things.

These days its a different story.

I worked in a servo many years ago while i was doing an apprenticeship and many people would come in every day or every second day with 5 or 10 bucks. Obviously if they had the 10 bucks every second day, week after week they weren't skint. Maybe they just liked to loiter at the service station. See plenty of that in melbourne anyway. ha.
