WOW some pretty harsh commitments in this thread.

With a claim like this, a lot of things will need to be looked at, even if it is found to be illegally modified and what not the insurance may still cover it.

I think people just need to take a step back and relies insurance is not black and white. Something like this claim could take a month or two to have decision made.

Now I know I'm getting old when I 100% disagree with you.

Last time I was out Willowbank at T&T there was a blue XR6T fitted with a screamer and it was the most horrid sounding car there bar none. I couldn't wait for it to come off throttle.

Because screamer pipes are needed on street cars!

Don't lodge claim, or at least withdraw it.
IMO, better to have a withdrawn claim than a denied one!

Haha, last night I heard a blue FG turbo with one and got a little excited :P I guess I'm just young and like loud things.

Update.
Insurance wouldn't cover the claim. As many have already said, engine failure is not part of the policy.
The car has been towed from the holding facility.
He will have to replace the motor and repair any damage caused by the initial failure and subsequent small fire.
We live and learn, some learn the hard way and some don't learn at all.
