Would you be offended to lose your job over three demerit points?

I have a feling that a lot more companies are going to adopt these smart key GPS trackers, They're a pain.
they dob you in for not putting your seat belt on before starting ignition, exceeding speed limits, and excessive braking/

So whose the simpleton, me, or the morons who get caught speeding during double demerit periods.
Agree
Me, 3 years since a speeding fine and im no angel either admittingly.

However, double demerits, idiots on the roads this time of year, just makes sense to slow down IMHO

Rather get to my location safely then stupidily or to be a statistic

So, what would (in anyones opinion) be the most fair option for dealing with speeding on roads?

Some examples: remove double demerits, only actually fine people exceeding the limit by 10-15%, not fine anyone for speeding at all, increase all speed limits, do what they're already doing.

Grace of 8 kph to allow for vehicle speed to float...anything less is just stupid and petty victimisation..

Just stay a little bit in reality here ....... there are 2 differences. 1, if you drink a few then drive, you know it, plan it and do it. Tuff titties if you get caught and so you should.

If you go 1,2 -5 over the an 80k limit, you can do if safely, watching your surroundings, driving to the conditions and can do so without the thought of breaking the law. You do it, I do it, everyone does it. I have said it so many times ..... no one can drive under the speed limit 100% of the time. It is not possible if you are driving safely.

Catch the drink drivers and those who purposely speed ....... just don't bring down the other 98% that are responsible and attentive.

Actually have speeding cars spontaneously combust like we are led to believe will happen might work....

of all the public holidays in a year, more people die going too and from work!
where's the outrage?
where's the double demerits, should that be going 364 days?

Sorry thought you were talking speeding fines . I know a bloke who lost his job rolling through a stop sign, no warnings. Maybe they just wanted to get rid of him.
G.P.S is already big with the major truck companies so its only natural it filters down to the small business operator. I am sure everyone would love to know where there sals rep is !

They will be getting an absolute mouthful if they block a major road exiting brisbane tomorrow. I am betting I would be number 100 in line.

Blocking a road helps detect speeding. Moronic *******.

Be ready for my abuse.

There-I warned the police publicly so its ok to go ahead with my plan now.

Victoria .... the leading state on stupidity ..... says they will NOT introduce double demerits. Why? Because they actually state that there is no evidence to prove that they have any effect on the road toll or incidents during the public holidays.

Someone is wrong .......

By the way, not against speed cameras. I am against the stupid tolerances they have. Especially on freeways such as Eastlink where it has not increased nor decreased the amount of incidents since their inception. Same as Geelong road and the stupid point to points on the Hume with silly low tolerances. 2 things, lift the speed limit in some major new roads in Victoria and raise the tolerance for the cameras to something more realistic. That is all.

Exactly. Why don't we all just keep our eyes on the speedo going downhills and forget about situational awareness. Actually knowing and seeing where you are going is overrated. Better to hit a tree or another car at exactly or just below the speed limit. What could go wrong?

Ah yes but what it does do is remove drivers from the road thereby reducing the amount of revenue from low end traffic offences.

I recently had a (high Ranking) cop tell me that 30%-50% of the people they employ are inept but the pickings are so slim they have little to no choice in staff.
They genuinely need quality recruits but the dismal pay and situations like this damaging there credibility wont help the situation.

The Forces at play do multiply so small numbers can add up but weight and friction are as much a issue, so fat people and cars with nankangs are also more dangerous than people going marginally over or under the speed limit.

It's clear that you don't understand Anatomy and Physiology. Have a little research study before you make such quotes.

.05 BAC is the same BAC regardless of weight. A 50 kg person would require less alcohol than a 120 kg person to reach that level, but both will be effected physiologically to approximately the same level at .05. Females require even less due to fat content.

Assuming it is perfectly stationary is foolish and naive and under the law the copper will have to prove he was not moving at a rate that is imperceptible to the naked eye. Good luck with that.
Agree with everything above.

If they are not using a tripod stand or the corrective shoulder harness there is no way they can maintain a steady hand to maintain an accurate reading especially at distances greater than 150m away regardless of device range capabilities, thats not factoring in wind speed, other cars and where the LIDAR is situated when recording allegeded offence/

I highly recommend everyone familiarise themselves with the Australian standards for LIDAR devices whether to know where you stand if you've allegedly commited an offence or even just food for thought for future reference.

Ref numbers are AS4691.1-2003 definitions & device requirements and AS4691.2-2003 Operation proceedures.

All available at your state libraries at no cost, knowledge is power.

Apologies for going off topic, just wanted to share this with everyone.

I was just thinking about this myself.

My thoughts are instead of losing your licence, temporarily suspend licence pending a driver safety training course paid for by the motorist themselves.

I don't believe loss of licence teaches anyone how to be a better driver only "Don't get caught next time".
The driver trainer approach will give poor drivers much more skill and education behind the wheel and minimise the inconvenience with employment and family with having no licence.

The only downside to this would be less revenue.
That's my opinion anyway.

I miss the old days where you pretty much had three speed zones. 100km 80km and 60km. Yeah everybody took a bit of liberty on a good stretch of tar but I reckon it was safer doing that, then constantly trying to work out if your GPS is reading the correct speed of if it's dropped from 100 to 90.

Too much time now spent on trying to work out if you are doing the right thing rather than doing the sensible thing as in the past.
