I read somewhere on this forum that an angry Clevo sounds like Satan waking up with a hangover and realising hes run out of smokes and beer!!

Coyote or Miami? Big difference between the two. The "Coyote" in my Mustang being naturally aspirated is all induction () whilst the "Miami" in the XR8 is supercharger wine laced with exhaust blare and crackle. Its a funny situations because the comparatively conservative family sedan is WAY WAY louder than the aggressive looking American muscle (These are observations with stock exhausts).

With regards to Falcon V8's, in standard form, each new generation is probably louder and better sounding than its predecessor when you think about it. Of course a worked Cleveland sounds amazing but, as others have mentioned, in standard form they were hardly earth shattering. And whilst the Tickford modified Windsors had a delicious warble to them, again a standard 175kw Fairmont was pretty tame. When the Boss 260/290 arrived on the scene, many bemoaned the loss of the "blood and guts" old school rawness the Tickford Windsors had. But at the same time, the sound of those 5.4's was so far ahead of the Holdens at the time. The creamy exhaust warble and the rorty induction once on cam was pretty special. Then the Miami was noted for not having much induction noise, but the exhaust was louder to compensate. (Again all comparisons in standard form. Once modified your not comparing apple with apples.)

The Hemis certainly still sound the part. I thinks it's the nature of the newer design multi cam, multi valve VCT engines that lose to me. Modifying an old Skool V8 was very common...it was the norm..Cams,carbs intakes heads etc etc. The newer multi cam engines are pretty well beyond the budget to modify for most...cam change? Buy 4. Springs? Buy 32 plus retainers, very expensive. Stroker kits? Find one for a coyote let alone anyone that can do it at a decent cost... Every time you delve into these things your really asking for unrelated issues if something else gets disturbed along the way it's just not easy anymore .
Really, for the average guy your limited to exhaust or cold air induction or a tune for bang for buck mods on the high tech engines which makes sense really, why would you go to all that expense. The Hemi and LS guys still have a lot of options since thy are still a reasonably familiar engine to work on....once you can actually get to it.

Full race car but sounds great at idle and full noise - a little pocket rocket from the mid 1960's.

With a Miami- for further sound, extractors, hi flow cats, an exhaust like Manta 3 inch x2, perhaps straight through, smaller pulley and fuel pump/injectors will give you an absolute feral beast. Will be a high tech but brutal barking sound.

You do not have to go cams/more cube stroker etc.

Problem is for a daily it would be too loud and would attract faaar to much attention of the unwanted variety.

Will not sound like a worked Cleveland, but will sound very very good in it's own way.

Avoidance of the swear filter is what I edited and you are right - I missed one piece of your particular brand of puerile behaviour. If you have a problem with that I suggest you go and read the site T&C again.

Coyote, not heard/seen many Miami cars.

I think from the Ford V8s, the Voodoo (5.2) sounds pretty special too.

My vote goes to old school.

Both new and old have their place but nothing makes my spine tingle like an old lumpy, raw, pots and pans v8 at wot.

This thread makes me want to sell my turbo 6 and go back to an 8 :/

I remember someone on this form saying they hate the sound of 6.2 V8 Amgs because they sound like an old V8.
Sounding like and old V8 is a complement to a new car.

A police pursuit car passed me this morning and I thought it sounded a lot like my 6cyl falcon when it was misfiring a couple weeks ago.
What happened to the old throaty ones?

A good exhaust and they sound great, the newer ones like LS series etc.

Cammed and OMG sound better

Old school has different notes but still good nonetheless but rare to hear them now around the streets
