Shame the recon pallet was destroyed in that one. Something extra cool about those RF's.

I now see you meant the crew module you posted above, but yes, I also mean that one.

From the Paris airshow, China has received orders for it's new jet.

Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce a new plane from the world reknowned leaders in reverse engineering and dubious quality. From the makers of the Great Wall and Cheri cars that achieved zero stars in the Eurocap tests, I give you the Comac 919 (seriously Boeing, don't sue because there's no similarity with your model numbers of 717, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767, 777, 787).

Tipped to struggle with FAA approval, the 919 is set to succeed in giving us all numerous NEW episodes of Air Crash Investigations.

Will it be worse than the Tupolev TU-154?

I doubt it would get off the ground (no pun intended) who in their right mind would fly a chinese made aircraft.

The thing is they aren't made for the international market. This will be a domestic China plane only, where they don't have to worry about pesky safety standards and all those other needless guidelines.

Remind me never to fly in china in the coming years lol. Although you never know. Cars is one thing, aircraft are another. I am reminded of an epsiode of come fly with me.

"this seat, Life jacket, this seat, life jacket, this seat, life jacket, this seat, life jacket coming soon. After plane crash in sea and is filling with water, you just simply reach under seat and purchase life jacket. Would you like to purchase life jacket? Would you like priority disembarkaction, purchase whistle? yes. Life jacket is now mine for 20mins, after 20mins life jacket automatically deflates and you swim back into plane and purchase more"

Tiger Airways has it's air operators certificate suspended for 5 days. How dodgy are they?

The same skit came to mind when reading about them earlier today lol. I flew tiger once from PER to MEL, the flight was o.k but they allowed drunk passengers on, one in particular a sleazy middle aged man who sat right behind us. My very shy partner asked if she could slap him and I wanted to jump over and knock him out. I had also had 5 jacks and cokes in 30mins just 1hr before our flight, although I still know how to control myself, but I managed to nod off until over esperance, when I woke my partner was so enraged by the male behind us she vowed never would we fly them again. Now also the decent into MEL was very fast indeed and as we were nearing the runway I was positive we were travelling way too fast.

On the plus they were cheap. PER - MEL return was $398 for the two of us.

Spudz, that guy should gave been left at the gate! If people want to drink a bit that's fair enough, but when they cross the line of being rowdy onboard, that's game over.

F6, it's a real smack in the face for them to be grounded due to a number of repeat safety offences....a function of their training, procedures and experience, so CASA has shut then down before something bad happens....and until they can prove they should be worthy of getting it back. This has been an ongoing saga for them and that was the last straw. Similar to Garuda being banned from flying to the US by the FAA and I still think to Europe.

Garuda and 2 or 3 other Indonesian operators are allowed back into Europe as of about a year ago, not sure about the US.
Tiger are still flying into Australia...ie their Singapore based arm are still flying here. I know Singapore to Perth is still working.

Thanks mate. The Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire were brilliant. I have a mate who works at RAF Waddington and I'm going over again soon to look at a Spitfire in one of the hangers.
Yeah the history over here is amazing. Just costs a lot to keep them maintained and flying.

I don't think there's a more beautiful sound in the world than that of a Merlin at full revs. Even better with two of them in harmonics. Sounds like freedom in the morning.

Sorry all you Cleveland people.

I'm only joshing about the first bit (I don't hate anyone) and I agree with what you say regarding the history over there - I was 11 when my parents emigrated to Aussie but I would probably need about a year over there to see everything I had forgot about.
East Kirkby was about 25 miles away. Dave (UKXR8) got me some tickes as he is in the RAF.

Back in the 1980’s a few of us owned a multi-purpose business in the Territory, which I managed. One of the operations of the business was the PB fuel agent. Therefore we were the airport re-fueler, this made life interesting at times as all Avgas was in 200 litre drums and was pumped by hand, using a high speed McNaught gear pump. The biggest job in my memory was an aero club job where 24 machines were refuelled. Mostly you stood on the deck of the rattle back Cruiser next to the drum and wound the handle on the McNaught as hard and as fast as you could. Some did this with such haste that their feet lifted of the tray at the top of the swing. This took practice and getting the arm as fit as was required. We even did a float plane out the back on the river.

One thing about having a reliable source of Avgas/Avter including a VHF & HF set in those days were the visitors from time to time:

We also had aircraft for charter, these consisted of a Bell 47ZGA, a 206, a 179 Skylane with extended range tanks, a Queen Air with retro fit V8’s. We even had a Jet Ranger there for about six months, however we sent it south as we couldn’t get enough work for it.
Had a young bloke working around the place as pilot, a number of the partners were pilots as well and the 47 spent a fair bit of time mustering cattle.

Anyhow, in the ‘84 – ’85 wet we launched the 179 Skylane south to north down the strip, it lifted off ok, got to about 250 feet……… and the fan stopped. It was a job from Isa, Qld to Kathrine, NT. The young bloke did a gentle left turn and tried to get back to the strip, didn’t make it and it fell down into the extremely wet black soil plain beside the strip.
So it lost the nose wheel, and had some under body damage, the prop stopped at 9 to 3 and was ok.
The local Copper who was also the local SES boss commenced salvage using the Cop Tojo & his box trailer. He burned out the winch on the Tojo getting the 179 out of the worst of the mud.

The attached photos show some of the recovery/salvage which was wasted as a cyclone destroyed the wreck a month later, just after the accident investigation was completed.

Seems in-spite of best practice, particularly in the tropics with fuel handling and pre-flight checks, it turns out there was water contamination which caused engine failure. The investigation found the cause; the bottom liners of the tanks had lifted in places causing corrugations, trapping water, this then spilled over into the fuel pickup in the tank….. and then, you’re a glider!
New inspection rules came about as a result of this accident.

Thought I would dig this up with a new model. This one is a custom Ansett DC-10. Although Ansett never had these in their fleet, I love trijets and decided it would be a nice addition to my collection.
