Thanks for keeping an eye out guys. I spotted a new white XR8 on carsales.com.au only 1.5 hours away and checked it out this afternoon. I was happy with it (it looks so clean and mature in white), and put down a deposit. Hope to pick it up this Saturday.

Now the less pleasant job of finding comprehensive insurance...

I wonder if everyone in the market for XR8s (sentimental old buggers) want's a clean, fresh one? I know they always cost more, but I like to know that my car hasn't been thrashed.

I've also recently been burnt with an ex-Ford Focus which I bought with 1800kms on it and it's had quite a few issues (I was once asked by a dealer if it had been submerged in water!!!).

Sold my FG MKII XR6T ute last week and went in to my local dealer yesterday thinking with 4 months to go I'll be right to order a new ute, but no more orders being taken and all thats left is what dealers have ordered. All they had was a white non turbo ute with the lux pack and a white XR8 on the floor which they said will be last falcon sedan the dealership will see and sell. Have rung a few dealers but no luck . Ideally would have loved an auto Turbo with lux in pack in smoke but not looking good to get one in any color.

Glad to see you got one sorted. Where it lacks in tech inside the cabin, it makes up for when you hit that loud pedal.

Since cracking 40, seems I no longer have to care about the price of insurance. F6 was being quoted > $4000 first time I went looking. On a whim when I drove past a red one a few years later (such a sucker for red cars..) did an online quote, $1500. Bought it the next day.

My current XR8, $1200. Though, people who don't live in Sydney probably think that's insanely expensive. $2500pa would probably be the average I paid for insurance before reaching the four oh - and that's with whacking the excess as high as it would go.

Wow, that is a lot.

I remember back when I was 25, I was paying $2000 for insurance on a VR SS which was a lot back then. Im 40 now, but my VZ HSV is currently just over $1000 which is several hundred dollars more than what I payed for my vy ss 5 years ago.. This is in Brisbane by the way.

Myself and others have said over and over, there are plenty of ads with stock photos but there are nowhere near as many actual cars available behind those ads.

update...

Last weekend Torque Ford had:
3 X 2015 auto in Silver
1 x 2015 auto in Victory Gold (showroom car)
1 x 2015 auto in Grey
2 x 2105 auto in Black
All above $53992 D/A with some sort of holiday bonus incentive????
Also:
1 x 2016 auto in Grey
1 x 2016 auto in Blue
$56492 D/A

So, no manuals and very few 2016 cars. Probably the same story all around the Australia.

So mostly autos in sedans but its the opposite with the turbo utes. Just finished the ring around and in Vic have found 11 manuals.

No chance of an XR6T ute auto in any color !

53,992 is a brilliant price without haggling, even if it is the previous year.

Default Re: FGX XR8 buying advice - have I left it too late?

So my brand new '16 build XR8 got delivered on Wednesday, and a couple of hundred kays later, wow!
Absolutely zero regret in moving on from my 09 GT. Yes, it's a Ford, not an FPV, but who cares. Some people get a little too wound up over a badge! (what does the F in FPV stand for again?) It's a GT R-spec underneath, so at least better than any GT that's not an R-Spec or GTF anyway. Goes like clappers, and looks much fresher and modern than the FG (even if it's a bit more discrete) - grows on you very quickly, and no regrets choosing white.
So what have I lost from my GT?
Lost the 6 pot brembos, back down to the 4 pots, but it still stops, so I'm not fussed (the bigger brakes were more for show IMO considering I'll never track the car)
Lost the sunglass holder, starter button, and the suede trim on the bottom of the doors. That's all I can think of.
What have I gained? A brand new car for under $55k for a start, tighter R-Spec suspension making the GT feel like a boat in comparison, wider rims and tyres, DRL's, projector headlights, LED tail lights, black roof lining, sync2 with sat nav, camera, bluetooth streaming, USB, front sensors, voice activation, less squeaks and rattles (none so far, fingers crossed), and last but not least a nuclear warhead for an engine which sounds 10 times better than my 5.4.
Zero regrets, and highly recommended move for any GT owner thinking the same, even if you do have the Miami anyway.
Having said all this, I did own the GT for 3.5 enjoyable years, and I'm proud of that, but sometimes taking a step up can surprise even yourself, even when you may be a bit hesitant. Just take a chance and do it; own the last Falcon ever. Someone out there will be enjoying my old, well maintained GT anyway, so it's the circle of (car) life!
For what it's worth, I was also contemplating getting an XR8 sprint, but really, I got 95% of a Sprint for 75% of the price, and I'm also not into the black roof, wheels and bootlip. As a daily driver, I'm over the moon with my XR8!
