Mazda shared development costs, all the Engineering/Testing work was done by Ford.

Ford and Mazda had separate design teams both working in Broady. Ford released the body and trim parts and the powertrain. It think elextrical was Ford too. Mazda had responsibility for chassis, suspension and steering. Fuel system was split. Ford ran all vehicle testing and drove suspension tune etc.
All Mazda and Ford for Asia are built in the same AAT plant in Thailand but Fords are also built in South Africa and South America for other markets

unladen the 2.2 has ample power and torque. It does struggle a little fully laden and highway towing at GTM means you have to shift down on inclines. The auto does have reported pullaway issues but the finger is pointing to the torque converter lockup as the culprit not the engine. Later models should have this improved.

Yeah the 2.2 still has more grunt than a Hilux. Even when unladen you have to shift down in the Toyota.

Drive the 2.2 next to the Triton, Hilux or Dmax and it feels easily on par.

But drive it back to back with the Big Brother 3.2 or 3.0 Navara and it feels like an asthmatic 4 cylinder.

With these crew cabs being increasingly bought by families, how well do they accommodate tethered child seats?

With the new rules in NSW children are in car seats till 7 years of age which means many family’s like ours need 3 child seat anchor points, or the threads to attach them to like Falcon has. Can anyone confirm if the Ranger can handle the third seat legally, or are the Territory and the Falcon the only ones in the Ford Line up that can?

Ranger has two top tethers as standard, but if you look in the Ranger sub-forum I'm sure people have added a third. You need an engineer's report but it can be done.
Focus has 3 tether points so there's certainly more options than just Territory or Falcon

Thanks for the quick reply Simon, it's disappointing from ford though, if you already owned the car and had another child fair enough modify it. Modifying would be cheaper than selling for something else.

But no one with 3 kids under 7, wants to spend 50k+ on a new vehicle of any type (from what i understand Toyota a just as bad, with the Land Cruiser), only to have to have a third anchor point added, and go to the trouble of having it engineered.

It should be in the design brief when they first start thinking about what the product must have considering the widening demographic buying these cars.
I had to laugh when you said Focus has 3, that highlights how important the requirement for them is.
