Totally agree about keeping something like that origional, but looks like there was more then 1 made, dont think the one in the article is the same one. But how can Ford loose track of how many they made?

He is from South Australia as as well. Apart from the hand painted mural it perfectly describes the one from the article.

Hi all, I have been a fan of this Ute for some time now. I don't know to much about the Ute but here is what i have learned,

1. Ford built three of these concept Utes to do the rounds of motor shows
that were happening around the country.

2. When Ford was finished with them the offered them to the dealers to sell
at there show rooms.

3. All were sold in Queensland for about $3000.oo

What happened after they were sold is a bit unclear, it appears that one ended up in Goodna, this is the first one that appeared in the Courier Mail.
It's the one that was restored to the way ford should of done it. At the time of the article the Guy who owned it and still dose wanted a Hundred Thousand dollars for it, not surprising there were no takers.

The photo that was posted in this thread is only the second one i have seen
and it appeared in the Courier Mail last weekend with the wrong photo, hence all the confusion that appears in this thread. The Courier Mail has fixed the problem in this weekends paper.

Ok Now to a personal opinion about the "what ford should have done" Ute, I do agree it needs to be restored back to its original condition, all three cars for history sake need to be this way.

If there needs to be a "what ford should have done" Ute then someone needs to find an old xw Ute and build one. Perhaps with GT bonnet scoops and 12 slot rims.

OK now here is a challenge to any aussie car mag maybe "Australian Classic Car" to do a story on these Cars, and we can find out where the third car is and maybe for the first time in in over 40 years bring these Cars together with there owners, what a fantastic photo that would make.

My Brother who lives in Moama reckons he saw one of these not long ago in an old guys place under cover. Saw all the paperwork and looked it over. Like new and apparrently the owner leases it to Ford and sends it around the traps for them.

He was telling my bro that they made 1 of them?? And figured out the surfers had no money so that was it. Said he worked for Ford at the time he bought it.

Interesting!

And it is for sale now. He mentioned less than 10K ???

My Bro does not bull*** about stuff.
He was on hisproperty doing some maintenance.

And rope is as good as straps if you know how to tie a knot, and that 20mm rope is good for 400 kg in a straight pull

But that car weighs many times more than 400kg. Rope can also fail suddenly if it hits a sharp rusty edge, or the car gets some movement and stretches them. The winch should be hooked on, and the car secured with chains.

Back when i was 17 a mates older brother bought a falcon ute that had the same body kit on it . However it was repainted maroon in colour and was or was configured as an xy . Had an eight in it and wasnt in bad nick untill he put it into a street light going pretty quick and wrote it off .
My question is did anyone make an aftermarket bodykit copy for the surfer roo or was this possibly one of the missing utes .

Gee, you mean I've been doing it wrong all these years??

Ropes are fine, and as you say dont tie it over any sharp edges and check the tension occasionally. Not everyone has access to dogs and chains.

This weighs a tad more than 400kg

Yes, it's your car, but thankfully there are people out there who see the bigger picture and enjoy spending time doing a proper restoration and displaying a piece of history as it was when built.

Found a old photo of dads ute sorry about the quality but the
photo is around 30yrs old as for link it hard to use image shack
using a iPhone. Just spent 1/2 hours trying to upload so this is the

This car was at the gt nationals here last weekend at Bathurst. its unique for sure but it looks good in the flesh. the lovely didn't get any pics of it but im sure others on here would have.
