it's ridicules as soon as a person does a skid or races someone they're a 'hoon'. so if Nanna gives her laser a bit from the lights in the wet and spins the wheels and a cop see's her she's a hoon?

so the moral of the story is... if you want to speed/drag/do stupid in general , buy a 1000 dollar S@#$ box whack on a turbo which will cost you another 1500 (you won't care if it blows up anyway) and when it gets confiscated you just :thebirds: and then go get another car : .

It's only the start anyway. More and more freedoms will be taken away. Speed limit will be lowered and no discretion will be used.

I mean they can already lock you up without reason if they suspect you to be a terrorist. I dread to think what laws will be imposed against society in the next 20 years.

as long as there is a bit of danger and a bit of fun to be had in giving your car a squirt they will never erradicate the speedster i reckon, perhaps slow it up a bit or make them more organised clever speedsters and hoons.

Give it time. The government will probably raid the local tarot reader, claim that she’s a witch or terrorist and burn her at the stake. The only stumbling block for them is getting it though the Senate.

Although if she’s a good enough tarot reader, she’ll see it in the cards and give them the slip.

I personally think taking the 200k car away is abit much, maybe a 20-50k fine would hit him harder.
Teach these idiots to do the right thing.

street racing will always be there, and people will always be "hoons" - why don't the cops set up areas for people to go and race and leave them have their fun where it's legal? then have an agreement that the cops never EVER go to the designated racing areas? sounds good to me........

However the rules were set and that's it, this guy knew about them and was caught twice. Maybe now he will learn his lesson, or then again he might not.

There are places, WSID, Calder, Heathcote etc etc.... these people usually wont pay the costs or conform to the safety and regulatory requirements of the venues, they're usually the spectators who take off after an event and "muck up" on the way home....
There is no excuse for street racing.. EVER.

Sure, just about everyone has screeched the treads at sometime, but that was the past -the laws have changed now, so abide by them.

I don't condone people driving like idiots and/or endangering or annoying other road users, but this is one more big cash grab for the powers that be and it is certainly no answer to curbing the road toll, and it will never stop so called hooning. my idea would reduce the number of cars that go "hooning" in the places where the cars were confiscated. because there will always be the type of people who go "hooning". and therefore it wouldn't be called illegal street racing if it was in a designated area?

Personally I find this whole law to be a crock of , We have penalties for traffic infringements in the form of fines, loss of licence and jail time. It will only be a matter of time before this is challenged in the courts and is scrapped. At the end of the day, it is theft.
The issue I have is two strikes and your out. It is up to the officer at the time. You accelerate a little to hard, buy buy car. You give him some attitude, buy buy car. He doesn't like you for whatever reason, buy buy car. It is all a little too Farcked up for my liking. We have laws / courts etc to cover everything else and have aright to defend ourselves, this just makes the whole thing a joke.
BTW for all you do gooders saying serves him right. Can't wait till you get done. Hypocrites, never had a speeding fine.. Had two? Say goodbye to your car.
This is the whole problem with this law.. It is up to an indvidual to choose your fate and that's it. Coppers are human (most of them) have bad days and anyone can be a consequence of that.

"The term "Hoon" was first used in Australia at the turn of the 20th century where it referred to a man living off immoral earnings [1] (i.e. a pimp). "

Moral of the story.. If your a PIMP, don't drive you car, to make sure your biatches are doing their job.

We have all be warned!. Several times. It sucks, but it has been publisized heavily.
On another note, the true muscle drivers like many i saw a few weeks ago at the cleveland show and swap meet. Not one driver did a burn out, or floored it off, or did a do nut.
]Must have been from the

A Ford GT confiscated by police is claimed by its owner to be worth at least $200,000 after he painstakingly restored it with a gleaming blue spray job and faultless interior.

But the 32-year-old car enthusiast will never see a cent of profit after the iconic Aussie muscle car was among eight vehicles seized during a blitz on car hoons and street racing at Botany on Sunday.

Eight drivers, including three P-platers, were caught doing burnouts and all had their vehicles impounded and towed away.

But for the GT owner, reclaiming the car will not be an option, with the sedan to be sold at government auction after police revealed it was the second time it had been impounded.

The move came as police yesterday spoke of their frustration at the ongoing problem of drag racers and hoons who continue to gather and menace residents at Port Botany, La Perouse and Brighton Le Sands.

Under Operation Torque, police and RTA officers have been targeting hot spots for more than three months, seizing 20 cars.

More than 30 police hit meeting spots on Anzac Pde, Penryhn Rd and Foreshore Rd from about 5pm on Sunday, issuing 18 defect notices and 39 infringements. The blitz came as more than 100 car enthusiasts gathered in the area, despite ongoing operations.

Superintendent Ron Mason said police were determined to stamp out the hoons, who were endangering other motorists with risky driving and unroadworthy cars.

“It is a big problem,” Supt Mason said.

“Several months back you would get 200 to 300. At the moment we are getting 100, so it's starting to get to them with the number of confiscations we are getting.”

Supt Mason said police called in the riot squad to quell unrest from some motorists, who were upset over the seizures.

The drivers were aged from 17 to 40. One youth was driving his mother's car and another was driving a vehicle belonging to his brother.

The vehicles included three Holden Commodores, two GT model Fords, a Holden utility, a Holden Torana and a Nissan 200SX.

“Whatever day they're going to be there, we'll be there,” Supt Mason said.

“You do the wrong thing and you pay the consequences.”

Some people never learn !! Maybe the GT will go to someone who will appreciate it

my answer ta getting ur car confiscated is invest a few hundred in a manual XF falcon with a crossflo... drops all the skids you want
run a few spare pairs of rims n get the old tires for free from the nice fellow at the tire place
then when it finally gives up just remove thee complience plate n numberplates.
then go to your local licensing centre and hand the plates in and get some cash back for the next one... you dont even have to arrange for somwhere for ya old car to go. the local council sorts this for ya :P
