I think the Yellow XA GT coupe that hit ford muscle cars this morning for $30k would have to fall into this category for some lucky buyer today!!!!

A good friend of mine used to drive past this place all the time with a VH Valiant out the front.. Rarely did he see it move so he thought he'd go and knock on the door of the house it was out the front of and see if he could buy it.. Was this old guy, turns out the car was in perfect running order with a pearler of a 265 in it.. So they talk about the car for a while and the old guy still drives it but doesn't really need it because he had an XD falcon (why you would drive an XD when you have a perfectly good VH Val with a 265 sitting there is beyond me). So my mate goes so are you interested in letting it go to someone who will put good use to it(expecting to maybe get it for a couple of k given the condition and how well it ran)? The old man goes.. ahh yeh.. 200 bucks and it's yours...

I know it's not a ford but.. what a deal... Plus all my mate really wanted it for was the 265 for his charger...

cant recall the name of the wrecking yard in Ringwood but I picked up a instrument cluster out of a GXL for 20 bucks . I was more than happy to take it out once the girl behind the counter went by the price list not knowing that it was worth more than that and it was and still is pristene in perfect working order . Paid the 20 and never looked back but the poor girl most likely got the **** !

Two that stand out that I can remember. Both about 5 years ago.

Logged on to Ebay looking for something completely different (like a dvd player) and one of those random "you might be interested in" listings popped up for a drum brake 9inch for $250 ending in 2 mins with zero bids. I'll take that thanks!

XW phase1 been sitting in a shed since '81. $21000. I'll take that thanks! resto in progress....

Ive got a theory on this one. The guy is going thru a nasty divorce with a vindictive ex as stated in his ad. The car is worth lets say $80k and the ex is pushing for the car to be sold to get her share. Hes had the car for 28 years, to give her a big "F... you" and save himself some bucks he advertises the car publicly for $30k, it sells straight away and he gives her $15k. Shes not happy with the $15k but what can she do, the cars sold.

In reality the sale is pre arranged under a pretense that the car will be handed back under another sale type arrangement when the heat dies down. He keeps his dream car of 28 years and the ex gets $15k for her share. No matter what the ex suspects the fact remains there is evidence that the car was publicly advertised and sold for $30k.

There is no way a car like that sells publicly for $30k. Having been a class winner at a GT nats there is no doubt that a car like that sells without advertising to a fellow enthusiast mate of the owner, GT club member etc. Why advertise when at $30k you know the car would sell to the first fellow enthusiast you happen to mention it to.

Cant blame him, I would do the same thing!

We did the same thing for a mate about 10yrs ago. Sold us everything in the house for $5ea. Stored it until 12mths after the divorce came through and he bought it all back for double the money. Where else can you find 24mths storage for a measly $100 and be guaranteed you get everything back in dust free, perfect as left condition

Helped a mate out a few years ago and went to look at a Yellow HK Monaro, noticed the big fuel tank and asked the bloke why it had it, "always been in it" he says. While I'm on the phone checking out vin numbers on the web my mate is chit chatting to him and he says "I'm only asking the original price I paid for it brand new" .... without even looking up I said "Buy it, if you don't I will".

Turned out to be a Warwick Yellow, houndstooth interior, 327, muncie, 10bolt totally original matching numbers Bathurst Monaro. All for the princely sum of $3800 Sold at the start of the year privately for $100K, not bad profit hey? Some people are luckier than others.

Mate of my uncles had mentioned to an old guy he met that he was interested in buying his original, one owner, rust free, 70,000 mile, 64 Compact Fairlane, if he ever decided to sell it. Guy takes his number and calls him up 6 months later and says I'm handing in my licence, want to get rid of the car. Uncle's mate says sure, how much do you want for it (he's prepared to pay up to 10 grand). Old guy says I'm thinking about 12. Uncles mate says sorry, I can't strech that far, old guy says alright, how about $1000 then. He gave him the 1200........

My brother was in the XY GT lookalike he had at the time inthe servo filling up. This was around 2001. This young bloke pulls up in his ****** old EB and looks at my brother 14" Globe copies and starts giving him **** about his wheels and they are crap. My bros reply was mate they are the same as yours.
The young bloke said yeah I want to get rid of them and put a set of chasers on it , as these things look ****. Brother grabbed his number and offered him a swap for his wheels if he grabbed a set of chasers. Brother goes down to see his mate at the tyre service , grabs a set of Falcon 15" steels and some trim rings and centre caps for a bottle of Bundy , brings them home , gives them a coat of silver and calls the young bloke up.
Young bloke is wrapped and even pays himself to have the tyres swapped over , thanks the bro and leaves the tyre service as we are putting the new set of wheels in the boot.
What did he get for basically a bottle and a fews cans of pressure pack?
A set of 15" , flat lip 72 stamped globes............
Swapped them with a GT parts dealer for a big set of slotters and and $500...........

Had a couple of lucky runs at the local cash convertors over the last few years.
Was just walking through and spotted a Turfer hand winch for $50 normally $500 was pretty knocked around but has got me out of a few mud holes.

Same cashies a few months ago saw a Magnum Pro Stick B&M shifter for $150 in the glass cabinet, asked to have a look and all the parts were still there still in the plastic packets even the B&M stickers...Brand New. Rushed home to check the part numbers on the net and flew back and grabbed it.

Moved to a new town out in the sticks for work about 8 years ago. Was mowing the lawn and had a peep over the back fence. Saw what appeared to be an XB sitting under a tree with about 10 years of leaf litter covering it. I went over and asked the old dude that opened the door about it. It was his sons car but he had moved overseas and wasnt coming back. I asked if i could look at it and he agreed so out we went. My heart skipped a beat when i noticed the twin headlight grille. As i went round the car and rubbed the grime away, out of the muck appeared a GS stripe. All the while im looking hes trying to flog me an old corolla that was next to it. I opened the drivers door and saw the GS dash and Tbar. Black interior in good nick. Opened the bonnet. 302. Next question of course was 'is it for sale?' He replies 'what do you think is fair?' I played dumb of course and said 'dunno shes pretty old'. Which he then said 'how about $200'. I swear my heart stopped for a second. I got shaky and kept cool and pretended to THINK about it for a bit. Then said ok. Literally jumped the fence and came back with the cash, a battery and a jerry can. Tinkered around with it and got it fired up. The brakes were a bit siezed and the gearbox rough but i limped it home. After a clean up it was a green GS with black interior. Sold it a month later for 3k......

We experienced this during the mid 90's.
My brothers best mate got divorced and decidded to flog his 2 owner XA Fairmont Coupe cheap to avoid giving the ex anything.
He offered it to my bro as a swap for his tidy XD Fairmont, obviously the bro snapped it up.
The ex got $800...

The Coupe was mint and had been slowly built over 20yrs by the owner who was a panel beater and had actually used it to hone his skills during his apprenticeship.

About a month ago, i got talking to a guy selling at the All Ford day swap meet. Bank was about to take him to the cleaners. I asked him about Ute stuff since i saw a tailgate there. Said the only thing he had was doors cos he had a landau he was about to cut up. After doing a double take, i asked more questions. Long story short, it was a rusted out car, but otherwise complete minus drivetrain and seats only. It is also a super rare one off colour of Springtime yellow. All for the princely sum of 500 bucks! Suffice to say, she will be restored.
