Apparently an Everest TDi gets 9-10L/100...it would be a special petrol engine to do that (and consistently).

We just added a Mitsubishi Triton 4x2 trayback to our fleet.

Metallic Black, Tinted windows, 5sp manual, 2.4 Petrol, Cruise control, Bluetooth phone / Audio streaming and voice control, 7 airbags, 5 star ancap, Hill assist / stability control.
$20500 drive away!! (Normally $25k) Absolute bargain and eligible for the $20,000 small business tax incentive.

Just have to get used to that horrible looking grille and headlights now, lol.

Is that new? That's cheap but I think I real reflection of what these tuk tuk trucks are actually worth. I can't believe people pay $70k for some of these Tonka toys.

^ yes brand new. Mitsubishi discounted them $3k per vehicle to the dealers to sneak them into the 20k tax incentive. Dealers then dropped the other 2k.

On our extended test the Everest averaged 10.6L/100km which we considered acceptable for the circumstances – it was pretty well loaded-up most of the time – although a lot of the kilometres covered were on quiet country roads. Matching the official 8.5L/100km would be a bit of a challenge.

You would need to be towing or flogging the hell out of the Everest to be getting over 14/15. 10's should be easy driving like someone with an IQ.

It is not any different to any other car - no-one pays 70k for a Triton.

My bil's rg Colorado does 13 filled with tools around town. (Has lunched two motors in 30000ks tho)

Agreed. After 26,000kms I've averaged 9.2 in my Ranger. Admittedly probably 60-70% of that is highway driving. But I don't have the lightest foot in the world and I still get 700+ out of a tank around town.

Those are surprisingly unremarkable performance stats for a late model diesel. I've got a 2008 Alfa Romeo 2.4L 5 cylinder turbo diesel and it has 147KW at 4000 rpm and 400NM at 2000 rpm. And its well over ten years old in engine design. And a fair bit smaller in capacity.

It's not always about getting as much power out of a motor. Look at a landcruiser ute power output.

Better to have a motor with some in reserve then wring it's neck

My Everest averages below 10 l / 100 km around town and I have a lead foot.

The test is by 4x4 magazine, and includes heavy off road use - take your Italian shoe box off road and see what mileage you get.

CSV8 you do the same with your Daewoo

It would leave a Prado for dead. It's the torque that matters in an off roader, not the power.

It depends on a car and engine design - there are some great petrol and diesel engines available. My mrs drives an FJ Cruiser and it averages around 11l/100km with 100kW/tonne (200kw/380Nm) it is great to drive compared to D4D Hilux i had before. Fuel tank is 159l so range not an issue either. I drive a lifted diesel 170kW/550Nm dual cab and it uses about the same.
200 series is better in diesel and Prado is better in petrol IMO.

So what would you prefer to buy, own and drive?
Car A makes 160kw and 400nm from a 2.0 engine
Or car B that makes 145kw and 380nm from a 3.2 engine.
Both duel cab turbo diesels tuk tuk trucks.
Would people not want a particular car because the engine capacity is small?

Off roader, yeh right. How many cars actually see dirt. If I am going to drive a box on wheels it must have power.

Car b. I'm pretty old school. Still always think there is no replacement for displacement.

Same reason I'd rather have a dmax motor over all the small diesels. Safe reliable power. Colorado is a fine example of pushing a motor (and it's one hell of a rough motor)

But that assumes that the Alfa is having its neck wrung, which would be far from the truth.
