Ah yes, you're right. I got carried away believing what was written in the article.

I can't remember the figures exactly, but I'm sure there was a preliminary power output to garner attention and interest, but kept being revised down and eventually ended up somewhere in the mid-high 300's from memory. Then it was canned.

But apparently the 2 'production' cars were enough to qualify it for entry in the Bathurst 24hr.

You've got to admit the stories for both are very similar.
To a degree, yes. but two different eras. The Phase 4 was at the highest of the Australian Muscle Car Era. And Ford pulled the pin on the project because of the Australian Government.

The 427 Monaro - Holden pulled the pin due to the lack of Sales.

Im not sure that's correct and I stand that it therefore did not win bathurst nor did Peter Brock win his whatevereth race. the car was illegal in the class because they hadn't enough built, I believe 25 was a minimum and Holden entered on promise of production. Was it a ploy to get the now (then) past it Brock his 'tenth' Im not sure he even drove much of the race (memory) or did he compete in it in nations cup that year

these GRM built cars that I personally had a hand in, were shelved by holden as it was not viable..

the end price tag was in excess of $320,000 each, you know that it's not going to sell.
to much work went into the hand built stroked LS1 and custom made holinger box.

The story reminds me of how Honda got the canceled NSX replacement into SuperGT. Apparently an intention to build the car was enough

Or high class escorts?

On a more serious note, $1,000,000 is a lot of coin for something no one cares about outside of Australia.

For that sort of coin you could have yourself a nice house and a second hand low km Murciélago in the driveway and people would be turning their heads 360 degrees to look at it when you drive it down town.

2 door Commodore which is the only one in production? Meh, glorified Monaro, no one would know about it, thats the problem.

Agree. A D-Type Jag would be similar money, and a replica less

By the way both links posted are 2 years old and the car isn't for sale anymore. It was sold in 2008 for $920k but was part of a 2 car sale the other cars value in the deal isn't known. Then sold in 2010 to the current owner for $320k.

This is one of two built. Holden have the "real version" with carbon fibre 8 throttle body manifold, carbon fibre bonnet, carbon fibre panels in the rear, aluminium flooring, AP racing brakes 6 piston brakes and other things.

This one was originally a GTO test mule. They just fitted a standard 7 litre, seats, roll cage and the digital dash.

Hmmm. So if this Commodore coupe thing is worth nearly a million and the Unique Cars HQ GTS 'tribute' is worth $120k, how much is a genuine HQ GTS sedan that I swapped for a bottle of Jim Beam for 8 years ago worth at these inflated prices??? $150k???

It must be drug dealers laundering money to pay some of the advertised prices. The end of the mining boom and resession will see prices drop. Its not like these cars have global appeal such as an XK jag.

Brock won the second edition of the race in 2003. There were other cars not technically legal such as the Bowe/Crompton BMW.

Brock drove fine and did his job.

It was a 24Hr race so he did plenty of laps including starting the race where he matched Nathan Pretty.

The reason they won was that the lead car at the last safety car the team decided/had to change the diff pump which allowed the 05 to assume the lead.

I remember the outrage.
Those 2 cars being allowed to run was and still is a farce.
Taking on production cars with non production monsters.
With zero intention of production.

A bit off topic but the only Holden concept from back then that I saw merit in was the SSX hatch back.
I believe it had potential.

Thought i'd bump this back up, car is up for sale again, for 600k.

Some would say its still not worth it, but for the only car sold to the public, i'd still buy it

That'll be easy. I'm sure someone will claim they'll have the second one sitting locked in a hangar out at the abandoned Evetts RAAF Base near Maralinga that Harry Firth built for Peter Brock that Larry Perkins used the diff at Bathurst in 1995....AMCM confirmed it!!
