It's amazing how many XDs are still getting around like that, stock as a rock and still clean. Just shows they must have been good cars.

Jenson Intercepter go the 440.

I bought a 1 owner XM Falcon a couple weeks ago. 73k miles on the clock.
It's been sitting under a lady's house since her husband died some 20 years ago.

She's 100% complete - but, everything made from rubber is toast.

By the way, this is my first post.

regards.

two tone aston martin db4.

it was maroon and silver. it was weird because i thought they only came out a single colour.

it was driven by your average 70 yr old manager type

Is the heater core disconnected? Or does it have no thermostat in it?

Very nice. Book yourself some time to bring it down to Chryslers on the Murray next year, its only a short drive!
While in Melbourne get yourself to the Gasolene Muscle Car Expo if you've got the time.

Interesting trip.

No nasty surprises when I picked it up which was good except for it had had a new see belt fitted for the roadworthy which had jammed so the owner pulled it apart and left me with a non retractable belt. I am somewhat slimmer than Jabba the Hut so it wasn't much use so the first hour was spent fixing that. And then off I went.

Melbourne peak hour with 1970's brakes. Hmmmm. Did I mention that it's got a Ford disc brake rear end? It didn't help....... Or, God forbid, maybe it did.

For those that weren't around then, let's just say there have been major advances in braking since the 70's, which every car that stopped in front of me possessed.

Anyway, safely through the peak hour and off to the open road.

The open highway with 1970's steering. Hmmmmm..... Similar advances in steering since then kiddies.

Miles per hour vs km per hour.I'm old enough to remember the conversion except....... Remember the aforementioned Ford rear end? Yup..... Different diff ratio....... And I'm in Victoria, the speed camera low tolerance capital of the world.

So, GPS on the phone, to work out what speed is what on the dial.
(For those playing at home)
40 = 30
50 = 35
60 = 43
80 = 57
100 = 72
110 = 80mph

Ararat.....stop for food. Hmmm....... Should have brought CD..... I know, I'll buy one at the servo....... Awesome, country AND western......... Hmmm...... Looks like no music.

Jump back in the car....... Click, click, click. Uh oh........and its got a new battery.

Stood there looking under the bonnet for a couple of minutes until a voice said "need a hand there mate?" We discussed a jump start and he obliged "don't see many of these round any more" and off I went...... Straight to the auto elecriciasn for a diagnosis of an intermittent external regulator which of course nobody carries anymore. So armed with that information and how to keep an eye on it, I set off again.

I have to say that the 360 drinks fuel at an alarming rate but....... Who cares!

Anyway, the old girl ate up the miles. But then it got dark. And the lights came on. Sort of. And got dimmer and dimmer until Meadows when I thought I would pull over and have a look at the regulator again. But then the revs dropped and the old girl gave up the ghost again. Battery very flat.

So as I say there contemplating my navel again, another voice from the dark "do you need a hand mate". Another request for a jump start, another " you don't see many of these around " and I was on my way

And so here I sit. The car's booked on the train tomorrow and I'm booked on Qantas and the old girl will be in Darwin come Friday night.

To the two guys that lent me those electrons..... Cheers. Couldn't have done it without your help.

To the owner in Tassie who brought the car to Melbourne for me, generally bent over backwards and didn't lie about the car....... Cheers

To Qantas, who when my flights were delayed over the weekend,, helped me get to Melbourne and changed my flights back at no charge....... Cheers. Absolutely superb service and I will be writing to Qantas to tell them so.

To jetstar who, when my flight was cancelled with Qantas on Saturday assured me that their Darwin flights were unaffected, who took my booking and my money only to cancel the flight 2 hours later and tell me I couldn't have a refund because it's not their policy but if I wrote a letter of complaint someone would (probably) contract me within 15 working days....... Up yours. You haven't heard the last of me yet!!!!!

And to the workers at the Chrysler factory in September 1972, congratulations. You should be proud of the cars you built.
