Little bit out of your price range and isn't a ute, but you might be able to negotiate it a bit:

1uz v8 is a great engine, but if i`m not mistaken its not as cheap on the up keep as our henry v8 , timing belts every 100,000 k`s, water pump is behind timing cover so that gets a change too.

Can't really get it, was a great buy though. Cost of getting it here, regency park inspection, reg, etc....
The ranger I might bid on.
Not really keen for a jap car after looking up repair costs, ouch....

How much does Auslandau want for the P5? We could go Barge cruising together!

Some excellent suggestions and links in thread.

And keep in mind what $500 got me ;) Wouldn't exactly call that a POS now ;)

4k. Factor in a regency inspection and reg plus hooking up the gas lines and you're on around 5600. Very worth it though.
So so tempting.. Might have to call him...
If we barge cruise rik I'd have to insist on you fitting a clevo. Or it's a no go!

Make some calls, find out how much the inspection & getting it up to scratch for the inspection would cost. Find out exactly what would need doing for a pass, then get quotes for that work.

If that all comes in under budget you're laughing, and you've got a car I know you've been keen on for a while now.

Don't impulse on something just because its nice and fits your budget. Fine tooth comb it to make sure its REALLY what you want and that it is going to serve you the way you need it to. Also factor in costs for parts you might need on each car should something go pear-shaped (for example, new alternator needed) - if that kind of thing will bleed you dry then there's no point in getting that particular car.

You've got your budget set, look into not only how much you can spend initially on the car, but how much you can afford to pay rego/insurance/fuel etc. Keep in mind you had a six cylinder falcon, a V8 will cost more each rego, and more in insurance, and suck more petrol.

Use your head and you'll be fine. If you need a hand with anything let me know. If you want to go look at a car and want someone along just as a second opinion on it, give us a yell, I'll help out where I can if I've got a day off.

And the seed of thought for a V8 in the Barge has already been planted, watered, and starting to grow. So who knows what the future holds.

Enjoy hunting for your new car, and like I said, give us a yell if you need a hand!

If you can handle FWD, 6 cylinder and slowness. Pretty comfy car though

Gives you $600 left for...... What ever you like.

Something tells me I can't damo haha.
Should have stipulated that it must be a rwd!!
Rik, I have certainly thought about all those points. With the P5, it is gas powered as well as petrol. Cheap as!
As for maintenence, well, it's never been a problem. I'm handy with a spanner, and have two mechanic mates. An old car like the P5 would be a walk in the park to fix. Should have seen the job I had tonight, transmission cooler lines on a commodore V6 in a Mazda 323...tight much?
Keep these ideas flowing guys, it'll help me decide what I might want. I trust the AFF brains!

Except, it might cost you $4000 to buy, maintaining it is probably going to cost $40,000. This bad boy cost $220,000 back in the late 80s.

Then theres the fact you'll need to own a petrol station to keep it going.

EDIT: I just saw that its not drivable, my bad O_o.

I'll do it then.

Sure you could talk this down to in your budget:

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=8995687&ref=Item&__Ns=pCar_PriceSor t_Decimal|0||pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Make_Stri ng|0||pCar_Model_String|0&__N=1216%201246%201247%2 01252%201282%204294965308&tsrc=allcarhome&__Nne=15

I wonder if an engineout of one of them would fit in the Barge..... (but that's talk for another thread!)

hmm, not sure if i should post in here or not. you are seriously close to having a big enough carrot to dangle in front of me, but its not on gas (and never will be while i own it). its not too bad on fuel. i get 430 - 450km from 65-68L. having said that, due to shift work, i'm rarely in traffic. ave speed on trip computer says about 45km/h.

you're more than welcome to take it for a test drive to give you an idea of a mildly modded windsor.

hope you find what you are looking for. another $400 would get the job done on mine but thats as low as i'm willing to go unfortunately.

Yeah I know mitch but I trust no one else.
Dad said I can have his Avalon if I can get him a deal on a new camry. " do I look like a salesman old man? I fix cars, not sell them!"
rob, this is why I didn't contact you yet. I didn't realize it had dropped so much in price though. A test drive is a must.
You have my number.

I'm going car yard hopping next saturday up north, there's a smorgasboard of choice along MNR. Might find a V8 EL fairmont for ok money, or an XR8. If I find a low klm EB xr6 manual, I'm buying it. Always loved those cars.
