You MIGHT be able to pick up a 90s Toyota Aristo for that much cash, its like Toyota's version of the 6 cylinder Fairlane, except with 2 turbos. Its a bit outside the square, but its got one of the best I6s ever made.

some great ideas guys, the soarer is a good one and not something i had even considered, so thats on my radar too now. a sprint would be nice but i'd probably be a bit worried to drive it for the first few months, if anything happened, i'd be screwed. an EF XR8 manual is what im leaning towards at the mo' but if a very clean GLi or XR6 came along, i'd consider as the turbo route would be fantastic. late nights working on it at home would be great. an AU is realistically too far out of price range and while saving for a BA GT is a nice idea, i really want to get my bum in the seat of something tasty fairly soon, as i often require a fairly well maintained car day-to-day(hence why bashing around in a 500 POS isnt too easy to do ) im almost %100 settled on a V8 now, or at least 6T as a future mod to a 6. manual almost definetly, i havent had a manual RWD car in toooo long it needs to happen for me. prydey, sell me your car.

let me just give you this advice. if you do look at 'e' series v8's, and you want some decent performance from it, bear in mind the top end (heads, intake, exhaust) is all rubbish. at a minimum you want to upgrade to AU stuff and even then the heads could do with a bit more work, esp the non 220kw ones. the cam is also pretty ordinary. the other thing is, once you start fiddling with those areas, the fuel system needs upgrading (ideally although you can stretch the standard injectors a reasonable way), and depending on the cam, the computer will need at the least a capa eliminator chip or do what i've done and run aftermarket computer. it all depends what you want. if you want it to be at least on par with your ba xr6, mods will be required. its always cheaper to buy a car with mods already done but if you can't garauntee the work, then there is the risk of buyng something where shortcuts or substandard work has been done. good luck with the search. if you do go down the jap turbo road, boostworx (shaun) is your man for all your tuning/modding needs. |

ive always known the E series windsor is a bit lacklustre in stock form. i was going to stockpile a serious bundle of mods then do them all at once!
i saw that twin turbo V8, and to be honest its not something id buy as a daily. far too likely something will break on me. it needs to be reliable. i saw something i quite liked that is a bit too pricey and please someone SLAP ME if i actually buy this...a VX berlina 5.7 manual. very rare and not too expensive @ 12,500. 107,000klm. a bit too out of my price range though, unfortunatly. and a Holden. as i said, if a fairly priced GLi with lowish Klms and good body came up, i'd take it purely so there is more cash for mods.

also, if you buy a car from interstate, you will need to go through regency to change rego to s.a. reg. anything obvious (tint, ride height etc) they will pick. looking for cars in s.a. is a pain because there isn't a lot to choose from and they are overpriced compared to the east coast. a lot more cars on the market over there which helps to drag the prices down.
my eb came from nsw. |

My mate's selling his EL XR6: http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11290610
It's a very good car (I can vouch for it) and has had a crapload of work done to it... nothing seriously modded or anything, but a VERY good base for a long-term project.

There is a nice cima on carsales for 5k. They are pretty rare but very nice and they share the same motor (vg30) with 300zx's. Pretty sure they have a bigger engine bay though haha. Link.
Another option is Lexus LS400's/ Toyota Celsiors, they have the legendary 1UZ, look amazing when done up tastefully and more features than you need. Quote:

I'm pretty dead set now on an E series manual 8 or 6. LWB only if it's in seriously good nick. I went on the coupe cruise today, really want a coupe but just can't afford!!!

how about an xr6 ticky ed? my mate has one, copped a fair abusing though, much to my disgust, but it packs a punch and is pretty toey. pretty sure its only 4 kilowatts less than the 8 im pretty sure. paid 3500 for his, and about $70 to replace one of the lights, with a second hand one... currently getting painted purple (the colour suggested by his ex girlfriend HAHA!) and was gonna get friggen sparkles in the paint. but now settled for pearlescent clear coat. shoulda left it the original poly green with a pearl clear.
but a very good car i reckon. |

If a good one manual came up I'd take it, only reason I have not mentioned them as much here is due to the difficulty in finding one in good nick, and when I do it's owner generally wants 2.5-3 k more than it is worth..

I've lost the link but if you look on the trading post website there was a white manual ed xr8 for 6 or 7. Might need a bit of work but it'd be a decent base.

I'm looking at it green machine, and it's a fantastic car to be sure! If it's still floating around in a month or two I'll be giving you a bell to discuss things.
