i was on Dodo adsl2+ near your area and was getting 18Mbps as well. Dodo use Telstra equipment out there anyway so it would have been identical if you'd just upgraded the Dodo plan to ADSL2+, except you'd get unlimited data. You must be close (1KMish) to your exchange. Good speeds though either way

Occasionally download speeds hit 3.8-4.0MB/s
Telstra cable.

i've finally got my connection stable by installing another router (WNDR3700 for the trainspotters) which is a fantastic unit. Now i can get lossless browsing and i've doubled my downloads speeds.

Check out the MB/s on the top section! That was caching a Youtube video.

and this was downloading iTunes (again, sustained speed)

Sloptarse cable.

Things were slow, reformat of PC, and things improved substantially.... often see sustained 2MB/s downloads....

Yeah its pretty sweet, I found the exchange & it'd be 1 - 2 km away.

Where I used to live was on a RIM & I could only get ADSL 1500 through a Telstra reseller - hence Dodo.

i'm paying for 1500 speed ADSL 1 WITH AAPT . $99/MTH INC PHONE .

i'm i getting ripped off . i keep complaining of the speed and they just keep fixing it , and it lasts normally for a couple of hours then slips back down again . they cannot tell me why . i think it is traffic .
i'm not good at interpreting this . how does it rate ?

how far away from the exchange are you? My sister was on adsl2+ 24Mbps theoretical, but i worked out she was about 4km from the exchange so the maximum she would get was about 3.9Mbps (3900 compared to your 1500). However in peak it would go down as low as 0.12Mbps, which is a bit less than what you're getting. Ports can be jammed as well, leaving little bandwidth for you depending on location. You could be on an Optus port which from memory were very jammed in my area recently.

i am right on the edge of a border apparantly . i cannot get ADSL2 with aapt .
if i do a speedtest of 600kb online , today i'm getting about 26kb/s should be around 110-150kb's . so basically i'm getting 256 speed for 1500 price .
and sometimes at night , the speed drops down to 3kb/s thats dial up speed .

yeh it's pretty poor - but that's the reality of ADSL. Speeds quoted are theoretical maximums and are very rarely achieved.

1500kbs is the minimum allowed on all lines, so if you can get ADSL, you should be getting the full 150-160KB/s speeds.
Are you connected to a RIM which is congested? Your ISP might be able to let you know if you are or not.

Otherwise, I'd start by posting in Whirlpool here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/72?g=325

yes, but as i said, when there is network congestion, like weekends, the speeds can and will a lot lower depending on many factors, some of which i referenced up higher.

i usually sit on 10.5MB/s through one of my download clients...

i never get to use it for more than a day or so ... 1TB isnt enough

i do almost double that on my adsl line when its running correctly..

i said upload not download ;)

i managed 3.5TB of Linux on my old ADSL2+ connection, maxed at 2.1MB/s

i could do that very easily on this cnxn. Fastest i've seen this is caching HD YT videos or downloading from Apple - 14.66MB/s is where it stays

the estimated line speed is what you actually should be getting there, your reading is a little low but speedtest.net has wildly varying results which are rarely 100% accurate. I remember being about your distance from the exchange on my old ADSL2+ line and got about 17Mbps
