I think Sydney are in a better position to win because they manage to negate West Coast's running power. Sydney are better at applying pressure as well as the best team at stoppages. Due to this fact, they force as many stoppages as possible which is why their games are often slow, scrappy and low scoring.

I hope on Grand Final day we see a game of higher quality. Last year was terrible and is the reason why I don't enjoy watching the game as much. The tactics have changed.

I would prefer the Eagles to win, but if Sydney win, I ultimately don't mind as long as they beat the Eagles without making the game a scrap affair!

So.....who's your tip for the Brownlow?
Naturally, I'm going for Judd.

Judd was very good for much of the season, but the reason for Goode's favouritism is his electrifying final few rounds in which he dominated.

Scott West was very consistent.

I have a hunch that Scott West will win after a consistent year.

But mind says that Goodes will win, as nobody can take votes off him.

Judd has Cousins and Kerr, two prolific vote-pullers while West has Brad Johnson competing against him. Goodes has no prolific consistent player to compete with, as Barry Hall was outplayed a few times and Brett Kirk is not a stylish player who attracts the umpire's eye.

Agreed.

But isn't it funny...

Until the Brisbane Lions made the 2001 Grand Final, you never heard of Fitzroy.

Suddently, the Swans made the GF last year and South Melbourne comes into it. But of course, when the Swans were wooden spooners from 92-94, nobody spoke of South Melbourne...no, of course not!

And Swans membership rose by a ridiculous amount this year due to the premiership last year. *** Bandwagon!
Not real supporters.

You follow your club through thick and thin, bleed through highs and lows and cheer, win or lose.

Absolutely! I probably went to more Essendon games this year than I have in the past when we've been doing well.

Not real supporters.
NSW people need a bandwagon to jump on. They seem to have forgotten how to play the New Zealand game where you throw the ball backwards. You've probably noticed a rise in the Melbourne Storm cheer squad since they've decided that AFL is less fun when you're losing.

Regardless of success, I won't ever be a "passionate" supporter of Melbourne Storm or Victory. I've been to two Victory matches this year and I would love to win, but if we don't, meh.

The reason I don't care for other codes is because I love my club, love the players who made the club great and I appreciate the good times, which are made more memorable by the bad.

Even Jim Main (of Inside Football) said that Sydney's bandwagon is very large. A lot of people that will "barrack" for Sydney this year would have been seen dead before 2003 in a Sydney guernsey.

But that supports the adage; Success breeds Success.

Why Fitzroy died...last made the finals in 1986, wooden spoons in 95 and 96. Nobody wants to follow a team that loses all the time.

Except me...good old Geelong. Going for the flag in 2063.

I am, It's a long story but, One night after 12 i was flicking through some channels and seen this game that looked funny, But what got my attention was the fights and how hard they smashed into each other and through the ball. Anyway i went on to look it up and seen it was something called rugby which at the time i didn't know much about. So as i started to learn more about the game i got the 2 mixed up a lot. Union league they seem similar at first until you learn more. I remember late night ads of the raiders, Some mean green fighting machine ad's.
So anyway i first liked the Broncos and the knights, Even started to watch origin, Some memory's i have are Ben alisis Cant spell his name running around with a bandage factory on his head, The guy should have been born with a life time supply of bandages.
So years went on and the broncos won some grand finals and the knights also. I really didn't have a favouret player at the time but a kid wearing number 5 Darren Albert got my attention one day i thought this kids fast noone could catch him. Then i started to think why doesn't Melbourne have a team why dont we play it?. Well it was answered finally the storm came to life and i had to say goodbye to the broncos and knights.
At first it was real hard to get any league on the TV. Pay TV was here and there. Times have changed now it's pretty easy to get and at a better time.
I'm still not perfect with the rules but i know the basics and even thought AFL is my number one thing i still am bamboozled with the rules:P Thats umps & refs.
But i was screaming in 99 when ansgoug knocked out Craig smith penalty try under the post!. MY mum was pretty new to league at that time but loved Robbie Ross she said WTF! ? Penalty what.

Of the 31 people who said to date that they are Swans supporters, how many of you are from Sydney and how many are supporters of the former South Melbourne?

Verse 1

For years they took the best of us
And claimed them for their own
But now we've got them back again
Our Eagles have come home

Chorus

We're the Eagles
West Coast Eagles
And we're here
To show you why
We're the big birds
Kings of the big game!
We're the Eagles!
We're flying high!

Verse 2

For years we learned the lessons
And we learned them very well
But now we've added West Coast Magic
And we'll give you merry hell!

<Chorus>

Bridge

So watch out all you know-alls
All you wise men from the East
Oh, you'll get more than just a footy game
You'll get a West Coast Eagles feast!

<Chorus>

We're the big birds!
Kings of the Big game!
We're the Eagles!
We're Flying High!
We're the Eagles!
We're Flying High-igh! <END>

The original club song was awesome.

Nah, the Eagles know they have to manage Judd.
He got the captaincy because there's always rumours about him wanting to return to Victoria. They wanted to make sure he stays.

But I sent an email to the Eagles years ago asking why they changed the old song to the current one (which I don't like), and they said because the draft system has ensured that many players are non-Western Australians, so they can't slag on their own players.

Pity, because the old song was totally grouse

Only the home jumper. The away one (that they wore in the grand final) is staying the same.

I think the new one looks crap.
The only change is that the Eagle has gone from the one in flight, to the head of the eagle from the club logo.

The one in flight looked far better.

I still think their 1988-1994 guernsey was the best.

Yep.

They had their "canary" guernsey in 1987 and part of 1988 (was heritage guernsey for past 2 years) then inverted the colours, which became the 1988-1994 guernsey.

1995-1999 guernseys were same as 1988-1994, except the "EAGLES" text under the logo was removed, and white trim was added. The home guernsey was the traditional royal blue, while away was navy blue.

In 1997 for the Ansett Australia Cup, the Eagles had a preseason guernsey that inspired the current one. But it only lasted a couple of years.

In 2000 they introduced the just superceded home guernsey, as well as the orange away guernsey that also was very interesting, but also weird.

They wore the 1992 strip in Round 1, 2002 V Fremantle for the 10th anniversary of their first premiership.

Then in 2004? they brought back the old 1995-1999 home guernsey, with the only change being the Eagle monogram being the new club logo, instead of the old one. (I liked the old one!)
Then this new one.

In comparison, Geelong, Essendon, Collingwood and Melbourne (1897) and the Kangaroos (1925), since being introduced into the then VFL have not changed their guernseys. Geelong's stripes have become wider, and Melbourne lost the red that went down the jumper at the lace-up point, but basically hte same jumper. Carlton's original guernsey had yellow. The CFC one though has been around for almost as long.

Collingwood have had black and white or white and black. Traditionally, their guernseys have had a white back with black numbers. But in 2001 they changed it to a black back with white numbers...which I believe was used 70 years prior.

The Eagles...20 years old...3 basic designs...8 guernseys...

Collingwood 4 games interstate, one trip to Perth and their last 10 games in Melbourne. If they don't finish top 2 this year they might as well give the game away.

Am happy with Richmonds draw, although would rather be living in Perth, their playing twice their this year.

Bring on April 07 already!!!
