Yep, I know nothing, been around heavy vehicles since I was 18, now 62. Trained professional HV drivers for 13 years, including mechanicals, including when the Detroit Series 60 hit the market. This type of fuel injected diesel is NOT new, been around a long time

Petrol is the way of the future (until an effective alternative is found), diesel is on its way out, look to Europe my friend

Trev, This thread is about which vehicle tows better the old 3.2 versus the more powerful 2.0.
FYI both are diesels, nobody is arguing petrol vs Diesel.

PS I'm also well familiar with the series 60 I used to service a fleet of Freightliners. but I'm struggling to see why that's relevant to this Thread.

How is it even an issue when the 2 litre makes more power and torque, over a wider rev band, and with 4 more gears, than just about all of its competitors? Hilux, D-Max, Colorado, Triton all make a fair chunk less power and torque.

The 5 litre is outsold by the 3.5 ecoboost V6 in the F series. US customers have really moved away from the V8 in the F series. The ecoboost smashes it for power, torque, towing and economy. They love it.

And yeah, no way will the V8 deliver good economy towing. That's just silly.

Europe are slowly moving away from diesels, but not in commercial vehicles.

You seem to be arguing petrol vs diesel, I just suggested it and you went off on a tangent, then started the usual personal insults (fairly typical)

The relevance of the Series 60 is quite obvious, truck engine manufacturers were all 14 - 16 litre with some even at 19 litre, then when they went 'electronic' the manufacturers started going smaller with the engine (what was Series 60 again 12????), well it didn't work out so well, so they have now gone bigger again. The SUV market is doing the same - history is repeating itself

You know this might surprise you but I am entitled to my opinion (without copping an personal insult)

Off the top Of My head & Without Googling It...
Series 60's were available in 11.1 & 12.7 Litre versions. 11.1's were predominantly Bus Motors.
Towards the end they produced a "stroked" version that was 14Litres. They was an EGR version (of the 14 Litre only) which was very problematic..

Those old 12.7's set Fuel economy & durability benchmarks that the current crop of Truck Motors can't get anywhere near.......

Sorry if you get the impression I'm making personal insults, but I'm pretty sure I'm not. the Mods would quite rightly correct me if I was. Im just countering your Opinion

PS series 60 was to replace the 6V71 two strokes which was only a 7 Litre engines

Probably hijacking the thread (& am happy to be corrected), but I'm pretty sure the series 60 replaced the 92 series both 6V92 & 8V92.

The 71 series was released back in 1938.....

Euro Emission standards will see the end of diesel powered passenger cars, its the particulate emissions that can’t be cleaned up. Hence, the move away from diesel and to petrol; high compression, direct injection high pressure turbocharging. In essence, a Diesel engine running on petrol.

The test doesn’t surprise me one bit.

well both, 71s & 92s stopped in 1995.
92s were 1.5L per cylinder

Yes not even relevant. but we can confirm the test was bogus. the 2.0 would definitely outperform the 3.2 towing

I think the same will happen in the US. Ford can sell a 7.3L for $10k cheaper than a 6.7 turbo diesel. The cost per mile difference is marginal, even when pulling, when you factor in the higher price of diesel and DEF. If you’re going to pay a premium to get torque and economy, a hybrid system using the 7.3 would yield a better return.

It is a funny forum, you have to be brave and thick skinned to post there, but I do recommended it, but there are a couple of Aussies on there who are absolute tools, most are pretty good
