Default Weekend toy

I currently have a nice ba gt for a weekend toy but would like a change but I am torn between a few cars .
I am considering a few cars , If I go something newish like a fg 335 gt/gtp or the new model mustang or do I go old school like a xe esp or xw/xy/xb gt replica .
What would you go for and why ?

Is the weekend toy for family use... to be noticed and admired... to include all modern conveniences?
Looks like you have budget of $45k plus.

are you keeping the BA?
the FG 335 would be similar to a supercharged BA GT i would think (300-350rwkw) so can't imagine it would be too different to drive than the BA and you would take a huge hit to the pocket if you sold the BA to buy an FG
if you could afford an early Falcon and do a strong 351 clevo that would be my pick but only if you rarely use it...

I'd be looking at something older for weekend toy/garage queen duties. Something to keep and admire. Nice to see some old skool muscle around.

If you have a family it's just so much less work using an FG as a weekender. I'm on my third classic/weekender now. They're fun, a lot of work though. FG is still always easiest to jump in and cruise with no worries.

Old school for sure, generally better resale (although the B and F series GT's will start to climb).

Well, comes down do you just want to turn the key drive off no fuss.
Therefore FG FGX 5.0l smokes the boss, find a manual more fun.
I love ol school, love it very much grew up with it but a PIA overall imo IF you don't have the time and dollars to spare making sure its spot on.
When you look to have toys/or own them you don't care about re sale.

+ 1 for old school smiles.

But you'll be struggling to get into anything 1960-70s with a V8 that doesn't need work, even with $45k.

The new cool value seems to be in the AUI-III XR8s. Sub-$10k for good man-well examples with Tickford tickles like sunroof. Or move into BA XR8 for not much more coin.

If you get something 30 years or older there's the bonus of $90 for full year rego and CTP.

Defiantly old school muscle, specifically one that will at least retain its value. Looked at a nice Dodge Challenger on the weekend -

Some of these older real muscle cars may need a bit of work here and there but the beauty is, they're simple to work on yourself and they are pretty raw to drive, giving a totally different driving experience to anything modern which in my view, is what you want in a weekender.

^^^^ what he says. The bonus with old skool is that if you buy correctly then it will only gain in value - unlike modern cars.

G'day , If it was me , I'm right for a beaut FG , so I'd look around for a nice XW , XY replica with a few mod cons but an old school V8 rumble/ lumpy cam like this..You'd buy it just for the soundtrack..Nothing quite like a Ford 351 V8.

Replica or not it's a beauty ...Cheers Rod

Old school is appreciating, new stuff is still depreciating.
Besides old school sounds and feels better.

Mustangs are in your price bracket. 65-68 coupes or 71-73 sports roofs.

+1 for 351..XW-XC are out of reach for most price wise, but XD's are cheaper, you just have to find one!

I would be more than happy to have a BA GT for a weekend toy if you don't want it any more :p
