Hi
Just curious if someone can give me some advice? I am currently selling my XR6 Turbo and I have had interest from someone interstate. They have asked me for the VIN number and a copy of my drivers license, they state that the buyers finance company need it. Does this sound like a common thing and could I get into any complications giving out a copy of my drivers license? Thanks Dean |

I don't doubt that finance companies would need this information in some cases from the seller, but i'd want to get to know the prospective buyer a little better before giving out that sort of information. Maybe request his details and verify them first ? Not sure how the privacy act covers these situations.

Sounds extremely dodgy. Ask him which company it is, call them up and talk to them.

unless he is taking the finance out in YOUR name they would have no use for your licence. Dont fall into his trap.

Sounds extremely dodgy....... don't be silly enough to give a copy of your driver's licence at all, not even the number..
They (finance company) will not need this.... I would ask him for contact details of the company and see what line you get spun... Be really careful (the buyer may be ligit, but sounds weird).. Good luck |

They are probably after his name etc more than anything, i've heard of this happening before. But yeah i wouldn't do it.

Might not be as dodgy as it sounds
I have just sold my ute last week and the buyer got his loan through GE Money, and they required all of the above. I needed to give them a copy of front/back of drivers license, a copy of the registration certificate, a copy of the roadworthy, a receipt and some bank statements. Also had to get the company to personally inpect the car after roadworthy to make sure it was legit I thought it was a bit overkill but I spose the finance company is really the owner when there is a lease on the car I would get faxes/letters of what is required before you send them anything |

Normal. I bought both my Pursuit & GT-P interstate and Esanda and BMW finance both needed me to get copies of licences. If you're unsure, ask to speak to his financier and get the request through on their letterhead and send it to them.

Thanks for all your help guys, been more than helpful.
