Not good news at all the flow on effect to their supplyers will be massive. Also worse news for Geelong with the future of shell up in the air. A very sad day for Australian manufacturing.

I saw the Mayor of Greater Geelong on TV after the Shell announcement saying words to the effect that Geelong had moved on from a reliance on Shell, Ford etc.

...
The Mayor said that despite the announcement, the Geelong region had a great future.
He said the council was currently involved in a range of job creation initiatives across the region, with an emphasis on innovation and the knowledge economy.
“Diversification is one of our watchwords, and I see the region’s future employment opportunities as being linked closely with the small and medium-sized business sector,” Cr Fagg said.

I'd love to take the mayor at his word, but the regional towns were built around manufacturing or primary industry. Geelong is screwed, he just isn't saying it.

A very sad day for this nation of ours, the domino effect this decision will have will be disastrous.

RIP Falcon.

I do see it as an opportunity...Ford makes some great cars overseas, like the Taurus. As long as they retune the suspension for Australia, as they usually have to do with Yank stuff sold here...we don't take kindly to things that wallow along like it's suspended on pillows...

Oh, and if you think the vast majority of buyers could give a rats *** whether a car is front or rear wheel drive (or even know), then you're sadly mistaken. "Getting the tail out" is something that 95% of buyers wouldn't even consider as being important in a family car.
