Mirage?
My missus had a 2001 lancer and it was a faultless car, can't imagine a mirage being too far removed.

I wouldn't go an Astra. Too many problems.
My recommendations: CE Mirage/Lancer KN Laser or the 323 equivalent The last of the N15 Pulsars Toyota Corolla or Echo |

KN/KQ Laser, BJ 323, BH 323 Astina or N14/N15 Pulsar, all in manual of course. Why auto on a car of this size, or any car really?
Avoid the N16 Pulsar. Some of these cars may be of a similar age to her Daewoo, but the handling, steering, build quality and reliability would be leaps and bounds ahead.

If you look hard enough you can find a good selection of Euros with less than 180k for that money. I nearly got a 2000 Saab 95SE for 3k, I was beaten to it in the end as I couldnt get to the guy fast enough and somebody closer got there first. 3k is not bad for full leather heated seats, dual zone climate control etc. Just be patient and a bargain will appear.

That Saab will most likely cost 3 times its purchase price to keep on the road for 2 years... Good value (under 5k) will be generally in unpopular categories like medium to large sedans - hatchbacks are pretty worn out by the time they drop under 5k. |

There is NO better car than an AU in this case...you will not beat it and will be able to find one with lowish k's for that price.
AU2 Fairmont FTW.
