Well I swapped a slightly newer V8 ute for a slightly older 6 cylinder. So I must be nuts. Had to have a turbo though...

Depending on what exactly your talking
Some older V8 utes could be worth more than the newer 6 utes
But some newer 6 utes will wipe the floor with an older V8 ute
Newer 6 utes, more power, better economy, than most older V8 utes
Model depending
Bit more info will help

Many people have gone from old V8s to modern sixes

I mean a FG ecolpi ute is gonna run rings around an old XH V8 ute in just about every way

If vs ute is in good cond, no chance id swap. an au ute is not going to be anywhere near as exciting. id go for the best condition of the utes

Comes down to what you personally want and what you think each car is worth.. If its raw power, going fast and the v8 sound than the VS is the go. If its comfort and reliability while maintaining decent power than the AU is the go.

My opinions:
VS 355 stroker ute - Plenty of power and noise and may be fast but in reality a VS ute isn't built as good as an AU would be and personally I find VN-VS to be too plastic and rough feeling to drive.

AU XR6 ute - Not as much power but still plenty there. More of a solid ute in whole and feel smoother. And as mentioned the option of converting to a tray back.
