I think it's some sort of military target but it's pretty strange.

The one with the derelict aircraft appears to be a training centre of some kind (like for Commandos), but the others...my guess is spy satellite calibration but you can do this with any fixed landmark.

Looks a little like on of those barcodes a smart phone reads....

Scan it and it will say "Made in China"...

Looking at the comments in the link, looks like a map of a city.... semi plausible if you ask me!

I you go to the Google link of the last one, the planes, then zoom out, there's a heap more semi "weird" stuff, some of which looks like an old airfield and irrigated cropping.

Intriguing images of vast grid structures in China’s Gobi Desert have left observers questioning what the superpower might be building in its remote north-western reaches.

Photographs from the Bing and Google Maps satellites show the mysterious structures, which are located at the border of the Gansu and Xinjiang provinces.

A region where China has often tested its military, space and nuclear hardware.

Conspiracy theorists have already labelled it the “Chinese Area 51”, while others believe the grids might be targets for satellite guided weapons.
The truth is out there........

hmmmm........ looks fake to me.

if they have built something there then why can you still see the contors of the original landscape through the white lines.

or maybe its just a new modern art work. lets spray paint patterns over the desert and see how long before someone spots it.

Totally fake.. you can see the contours of the landscape, and the straight lines are just too perfect over a non-flat landscape like that... someone has just hacked google maps again
