I always knew there was something in the water at Elizabeth!!!
Ok its thinly related to automotive as it refers to the Holden plant... Quote:

"Historical chemicals". I would suspect any car plant, Ford included, would probably have the same thing. A holdover from the days when they'd tip drums of crap down the drains or hose down production areas..."environment? What's that?"...

Very true. In the area between the stamping plant and the old plant 5, where a creek runs through, they used to dump all their scrap steel there, and a some of it was chemical coated, zinc etc. They dug it all up and got rid of it a few years ago when they were about to sell plant 5.
Also the old Product Engineering building which has just been leveled to make way for a Bunnings was quite heavily polluted. The cars they put in the crusher weren't even drained of fluids back then. No one cared back in those days. |

I remember riding down at the creek Bossxr8 is talking about and found it odd that some parts were alive and living when other bits were dead as a dodo

I remember they tested the soil and found high levels of zinc and nickel, probably other types of heavy metals like cadmium, chromium and that sort of stuff too.
Cowies Creek it was. |

They'd get a slap on the wrist compared to if they had a serious OHS breach.

Come on, has anyone ever been up salisbury / elizabeth way. Go to the local shopping centre etc and you will see that Holden will be shitting bricks about potential court cases that could be bought against them. Who would walk around in a Holden t- shirt, tracky daks and ugg boots, if they havent unwittingly been soaking up trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethene (PCE) over the last 20 years.

There have been a few instances like this recently round Adelaide. The first one I think was the hills hoist factory.
