Had my HSV rumaged through last night while I slept - Only thing they stole was the Leather Compendiumn which had the manual, and full service history, but that'll cost about $200 to replace and I dont get back any of the service history! All the money (only silver coins) were still left in the console - guessing they were chasing higher value items.

Car was parked on my lawn right outside my bedroom window... Looks like I never locked the car I'm surprised the dogs didnt go crazy... So much for being a good suburb - guess there is not such thing really now that I think about it.

Went out this morn to find the passenger door (road side) only half clicked shut, and interior lights off. A few things pulled out and moved around and glovebox open

Filed a police report incase they get/have been caught but not expecting anything at all... Putting some hope in finding it on ebay...

is it possible they specifically targetted the service records? sounds a bit far fetched but maybe they plan on using the service record to help sell their own vehicle, although they do normally have the vin and what not stickered in the back.

glad i have lockup carport. these stories seem to be getting more common.

being a HSV they probably expected to find stuff like GPS and big dollar bills. at least they didn't steal your car. i've heard of a few people in bad suburbs with cheap cars don't lock them so that the thieves don't break the windows to get in.

At least be thankful nothing else was taken or they didn't attempt to take the car itself!

One time a couple of years ago at the local Cinema, dad's VH SS was broken into, but thanks to the crappy alarm that came with the car and one of the theater attendants, the car was saved from being stolen!

It's a weird feeling seeing a car you own and knowing some scum bastard was in there looking to steal, boils my blood !

happened twice 3 times to me.. 2 seperate locations..
2 smashed windows..
locked the car but didnt relise left a door ajar and unlocked itself.. -didnt notice though..

-stolen audio gear to tune of about $850 + smashed window.. and the other two times they didnt score anything of real value..

I'd be worried they might come back for the car.
If they have your VIN from the owners manual, they might be able to get a new key cut from the dealership

A good suburb in Newcastle? I'm not saying the place is bad but you can still live within cooee of the beach and still have a Ferrari stolen from a locked house.

All I can say and this is from experience is once bitten twice shy. Low life grubs need their fingers broken or cut off.

This ^ I'd be calling HSV/Holden respectively informing them of the goods being stolen and they'll put a notice on the cars file.

When Key cutting specialists cut keys from newer model cars, they have to call and make sure the car isnt stolen.

wouldnt a replacement key still need to be coded to the car? factory immobilser shouldnt let it start if its just a recut key.

Doesn't matter if it is a good or bad area. Those inclined leave the bad areas to go 'shopping' in the good areas. Least you left it open! They might have done some decent damage trying to gain access.

least they didnt have to break the window to get into it. I now keep all car logbooks in my house, then just put them in the cars when they go in for servicing...

don't you also need a vin these days to order genuine parts? maybe they are doing up a stock commodore and wanted genuine HSV parts (bodykit etc).

With the VIN on the NSW rego label, it would be just as easy to walk up to a car when it is parked and write down the VIN without touching the car.

sorry to hear this mate. its the worst feeling ever!!
my work dunger was broken into about a month ago and they took about $2 in scrapnel and put the ash try back in the centre consol.

Had my E1 R8 broken into when I was Eastern Creek. I wish I had left the car unlocked. The stuck a screwdriver into the passenger side window and smashed the glass leaving a dirty big screwdriver mark.

Was nothing worth stealing inside the car.

I've had my 79 Escort RS broken into at TAFE, they got into the car without causing damage but damaged the ignition barrel. They emptied the glovebox looking for keys to the clublock and they couldn't start it due to the killswitch.
The car they ended up stealing was found torched. A $30 clublock and a $0.50 micro switch are worth it.
