Default xr8 vs xr6t insurence?

hey guys first post. im a commodore man though and through just got a question for all ya ford people in the know.


what would cost more to insure a xr6t or xr8. or f6 gt etc.


would they be the same price or would the boss be cheaper cause its na and some insurence compines cringe at the thought of fi?

just curious.

I would of thought having the letters GT on a car makes them more expensive to insure.

ya i would have thought that the fact its has a turbo and is just as quick(quicker even) would mean it would cost more? someone most of owned both?

2005 BA MKII XR8 ute with mods insured for $38,000 - $1157 p.a

2009 G6ET insured for $59,790 - $904p.a

So in those prices turbo is definitely cheaper.

My BA XR6T was cheaper to insure than the xr8!!!!

XR8 was $1950 and the turbo was $1750!!

When I was looking at getting my XR6, i had a look to see how much more a XR6T or XR8 would cost to insure (I was 20 at the time), I can't remember how much the exact figure was, but I know that the XR6 Turbo was $100 more a year than the XR6, and the XR8 was $100 more a year than an XR6 Turbo. I was very surprised that it wasn't much more of a difference to be honest.

XR8 is almost always more expensive to insure than XR6T when comparing deals with the SAME insurance company.

Just remember, insurance companies have crash data, that is, how many crashes that particular car has been in, as well as age groups of the crashes. This contributes to the cost. So naturally a G6ET probably won't be too expensive, even though it is turboed, because it's not been around long enough to be in a lot of crashes, whereas the earlier V8's and 6T's have been in quite a few by now.

Different companies have different policies and then different companies have different prices to do with age etc.

If you want to insure an XR8, AAMI is the the only Company to deal with. I have used them for my XR8's and GTP for years. For some reason no other Insurer can compete with them on XR8's....

Nope, I had my XR8 with AAMI and ended up going to Shannons as they offered a far better deal. If I recall correctly it was about $300 difference.

If your a p plater aami is the best. Monthly payments, as of recently unlimited mods and fairly good pricing make them good for youths.

I found shannons were light years ahead for me a 21 year old in a bf mkII xr8 at about $1200 a year, over $1000 cheaper that all of the others like AAMI and NRMA

You see, this is the inconsistency I just don't get.....You pay $1,200 to insure an XR8 as a 21 year old yet I'm 46 and pay over 2 grand to insure my BA GT with a near perfect claims and driving record. I'm with AAMI , have been for 15 years or more and have had their lifetime no claims bonus for most of those years. They were the cheapest for me . Shannons didn't even want to go there

just an update, my wife actually informed me that these figures are wrong.

I am actually only paying $721p.a for the G6ET that with a limit of 15000k's a year. Only a weekend car anyway.
It is a total of $938 combined with my old run around sh#tbox hyundai. Still nearly $400 cheaper for both cars than Shannons were for the G6ET.

I suspect that for the same reason that there are several AFF members on LS1 that Clinton is curious about us on the other side and has landed here.

In this day and age with more imports and now China sending cars our way, I guess that the Ford vs Holden thing will become a thing of the past as both companies struggle to survive. Whatsmore, Holden need ford as much as ford need holden for economies of scale in parts suppliers prices.

Clinton welcome, don't become a stranger.
BTW, my G6E-T is cheaper on insurance than the V8 it replaced.

What you will find thou if you are under 25 and have a XR6T or and Turbocharged Petrol you will get fisted by insurance company and some won't insure you if you are under 25 and have a XR6 Turbo, is what i found out.

My 2 FG turbo utes are $600.00 each with CGU through a broker but at first they wanted $836.00 each but after a bit of a grizzle they dropped them to the $600.00, I am 49 but one of the utes is driven mostly by my 23 yr son.
