Default Where do i stand ?

I have been given a courtesy vechicle , I have been driving it for over 2 months now while getting work done to my ute .
Anyway the house im working on at the moment is approx 100km, while driving there the ute lent to me has started to play up (bad stutter and backfiring ), not sure whats going on , But i changed the oil ,cleaned the carbi and cleaned the plugs . When i droped the old oil it was pitch black an like a sludge .
I have no choice but to keep driving it , an hoping it will keep going .
My question is should i pay to fix there ute , or just drop it back to them running ordinary . They have been good to me so im unsure

Their car, they can fix it - if provided with a loan car I'd expect it to be reliable. The ones I get usually aren't pretty, but they do the job. My mechanic runs them into the ground and buys another cheap car when they become unviable to repair. Let them know, maybe they can give it a quick fix.

The sooner they get your car back to you, the sooner you won't need theirs for 100km trips.

Nup i wouldn't be paying to fix a loan car, let them know what is going on with the car and get another one or they can fix it, i have hired cars from rent-a-bomb and the first thing i was told if it breaks call racv and get it towed. loan or hire car if there suppling me a car i expect it to be as reliable as my own car.

Years ago, I had the use of a panel beaters courtesy car while they were doing some major repairs on one of mine.
It was a Mazda 121 Funtop, and was an absolute POS. The roof leaked, the tyres were nearly bald, reverse only worked if Jupiter was in Uranus, etc. etc.

Took it back after one day, but they didn't have anything else available, and wouldn't spend money on it to make it roadworthy. Took it home again, but didn't drive it until they had mine ready to be collected.
On the way back, got pulled over for an RBT. They quickly stuck a big yellow sticker on it, and that's how I delivered it back to the panelbeaters.

It's not hard to change the oil.. You could ask them to change it so it doesnt die or you could do it yourself - easy job - just throw some cheap oil in it

Just ring them. It's not your responsibility to maintain a courtesy car.

Well its probly more like 3 months
. This is a rough photoshop of what is taking so long
.

Any thanks for the replies fella's i might of fixed it . I finally got a chance to put new plugs in . An i think it just needs a tune now but my solution was to jam the choke to keep the revs up so it does'nt stall .
Also the did offer me a different ute in the begining a much better one but to but it did not have a towball.

Just give them a call and tell them the story, they may be grateful if you can change the oil for them.

Plus, if it does blow up, then there is a record that you reported a problem.

It would probably help allot more if you explained yourself properly in the first place.. You made it sound like you had a courtesy car for some warranty/repair work at Ford....
In reality it sounds like you've got a "loaner" from the panel/custom fab shop...

Well yeah its from a fabricater , not sure how i implied it was from ford , but anyway next time ill try to be clearer.

I just thought because ive had the car for so long maybe i should pay for the problem if its not major. Instead of giving them back a faulty ute after it was offered to me as a nice gesture . Just wonder what others would say/do also the chance of someone guessing what the ute's issue was.

How much longer until you get ya ute back?

I rekon if its more then 2 weeks I'd be paying to get it fixed myself just for the fact they did a nice thing lending it to you & its only gunna keep annoying you until you get your ute back.

What sort of ute is it, older Hilux or an XF I'm guessing?

IMO, It would all depend on the circumstance of you having the loaner.
If they offered it to you as a gesture while they work on yours, Then I would call them up, tell them it's running like crap and offer to have a look at it for them. Let them make the decision. They may even offer to cover the part/oil (or take it off your bill).
If it was given to you because they are slack/slow and have had your ute for so long you cracked it at them and they gave it to you to "shut you up" then I'd dump it on them to fix.

Its tuff they finished the fabrication two months ago and i gave them my old tray witch was in bad nick as a trade for the courtesy vehicle . While its at the panel beater/painter which was only ment to be a a few weeks but has turned into another 2 months because of unseen issues .
In my defence the ute i was given was not running the best when i recieved it but it has gradually got worse.
oh and it a 85 courier 4 clyinder 2.4 or 2.5 i think .

When it comes to panel beaters, I’d say that a two month time frame would most likely be a minor body or paint repair. This could go up to three months if they have to remove and refit a bumper.

Also, add an extra month if you want them to do a half arsed job of cleaning the interior because they left the window down for the entire time that the car was in their workshop.

As for fabrication work, the sky’s the limit.

Mate looking at your photoshop pic will look very good when finished one of the best tonners around certainly won't be mistaken for anyone elses ute. Worth the wait if it's a schmick job probably a difficult cut and shut IMO.

thanks though worth it im not sure ,its debatable but unique yes it is.
It just somthing i wanted to do but is risky because didn't know how it would turn out.
An it is very difficult to do the bloke that did build it has been asked a few times by people if he could do there ute ,and he just refuses never again he reckons.

The hard bits a rolling the frame to match the curves in the tub without changing the shape, Then welding the cut tub to the frame and you can only weld a little a time because if the tub get hot it warps. Then cutting the lights and sealing them up there heaps of work in . Alot more than i origanally relised . But i cant wait for the fineshed result .
