I don't go to the beach, I am a westie bogan. My local pool has a wave machine though.

i got one of those magnetic key hide that u get for spare house keys, riveted it to the underside of the chassis, painted it in that black tar crap, blew some dust on it when it was wet and after it dried, it was hard to spot, even if u knew it was there. if u didnt, it was invisible.

i also had 2 didfernt keys. one for ignition, and one for door locks, so the door key went into the hide, and the ignition key in the boot.

Easy solution if you have an old falcon make sure u park it in a safe space where there is plenty of room between car doors and open up the bonnet and take of the rotor button, chuck it in the boot and take the keys with ya. What thief will be caring a spare rotor button on them, the only other thing i take of when at the beach is my xw gt fuel cap they cost to much to get knicked every weekend.

Its not a safe place anymore. If i got to the beach its usually me a couple of mates and a few girls and atleast 1 of the girls usually doesnt wanna swim so they just sit there so thats a big help.

Unfortunately this topic is a perfect illustration of the need for a "two car policy" (i.e. having your 'good' car and then a runabout rubbish car).

This same thread could be "How do I Safely Park at My Local Train Station Carpark?". Umm, you can't. My 2nd car is an older Falcon and it looks like a Humvee that's spent a month in the red zone in Baghdad. Looks like its been hit with half a dozen RPG rounds with assorted small arms fire!!!!!!!

If you have the means, but a 2nd car for all the risky and/or crappy roles such as beach parking, train station, shopping centres etc.........or be on good terms with your local panel beater or insurance company.

Someone always stays with the gear and thats only cause we bring so much of it, Last year we got one of those tent shade thingys, put all our stuff in that and zipped it up, looks heaps more suspicious someone going through one of those, than just kicking though gear in the sand. If we can we take the missus car, who on goods earth would want to steal a Kia Cerato?

Trust me, I know, low life hang about in the car park watching for a car they like, watch where the driver puts the key, whether it be in the wheel arch or down to the beach in the towel.
They watch and wait then strike, and if you're out catching a curl it's too late.

Old thread I know , but I wouldn't take my Pride & Joy to the beach , My brother used to and all he got was one "Very Rusty V8 TF Cortina" that got put off the road .

I wouldn't take my rust free XB anywhere the beach .

Only one flaw in this theory
I had an XD years ago (still reasonably new at the time)
my neighbour had a really hot XD
he used to take out the rotor buton religiously.
One morning my car was missing a rotor button and my neighbour was missing a car.

If I am driving, will normally take the 4By, and trip the emergency fuel shut off solenoid as I leave (that’ll ****** em LOL). So if they find my keys they can try and start it, till I show up, At which point thay better Hope they are bigger than me : .

+ It makes it easer getting out of car parks and chit cause you just drive over the kerbs LOL

Was going to start a new thread, but alas 'Search' was my friend...

I took the Mini to the beach the other day by myself. Usually my wife will chill on the sand with a book, and mind the keys. But what to do by myself?

Then I remembered something the salesperson said in the 1.5 hour delivery briefing. Another of the genius thinking that makes the Mini so much fun (and so friendly) is the 'swimming key'. Its a small hard plastic key that can open the doors and glovebox, but doesn't work with the immobiliser ignition. So you lock the main key in the glovebox, and lock the doors with the plastic key. Comes with a little lanyard to attach to your shorts (or bikini! - no not mine) and off you go.

Now if someone is really stalking the car out from the time you get there they MAY work it out. At which stage they still have to break into the car AND then into the glovebox to get the engine key. But if they are going to that much trouble they are going to take it anyway. Much, much harder than simply finding your key in your towel and walking up to your car in the crowded carpark like they own it.

So it appears gone now are the days of putting on the club lock, and hiding the key seperately in the car somewhere so if someone does find the car key in the towel, they still need to fuss around trying to get the clublock off without the key (my old trick).

i was in a real hurry once and left my escort ( it was my other,parts car,escort. not the good one) at the beach carpark with the window down and the keys in the ignition. took me about half and hour before i realised what i had done. was still there just as i left it though. lucky.

in summer go down to various beaches about 3 -4 times a week, most of the time park in a church carpark. take off the p plates and leave nothin in site, half the time take up two car parks. havent had any trouble yet .

I don't like the idea of swimming with the car keys because I don't know what affect the salt water will have on them [probably nothing, but I don't want to take the chance]. Seeing as I have 4 keys for my hard tonneau, I lock the car, throw the keys in the tray, lock up the tonneau and swim the tonneau key.
