Default Workplace Dilema

Hi guys, I have a bit of a dilema at work and just want to know what you guys would do.

The problem is I have been told that one of my work mates who I have become good friends with will be getting the sack in 2 weeks time. He has been with the company for 5 years now and is a good worker but upper management dont like him.

I want to tell him about it but dont know how to go about it. The person who told me about this has resigned and will finishes up on Friday and doesnt wnt me to say anything until then. I have also resigned but dont finish up for another 3 weeks.

So a) Do I tell him about it, b)If so I should I go bout it, or c) pretend I didnt know anything about.

Any opinion on this would be great.

As in, If I were getting the sack would I want one my work mates tell me? Yeah I would.

But how do you tell someone?

if he is a good mate and your leaving and another guy there sounds like there's a bad apple, tell him and if he trust what you say he'll get in first.

Easiest solution is to suggest that he start looking for work. When he asks why, just tell him because he could lose his job tomorrow or in TWO weeks.

i would like to know why give him a couple of weeks to look for something else, and a resignation looks better then getting fired on the resume

At my work, if upper management dont like you on a personl level, they will get rid of. I have seen it done so many times before. You usually get an email from HR saying that they no longer work there anymore and no explanation is given, but in a small workplace its not long before people find out what happened.

I would just tell the bloke straight up that he is getting the can, at least that way he has 2 weeks to sort his stuff out and find another position etc. etc.

Just pull him to one side and explain to him that he is getting fired, that you want him to know now so he has some time to sort his situation out and that you would appreciate it it if he kept quiet about knowing about it.

Spoke to him about it today. His boss has now told him he will be made reduntant shortly which is better than just getting the sack. He took it quite well as he will be paid about 6 months salary.

I also explained to him how he is underpaid here and would be able to get a job doing the same thing and get paid 20K more.

Definatly tell him, he's ur mate after all and if it's really true then he might as well resign too and start looking for work.
