Default Fan staying on after engine switched off

Hello all,

The other night, a fan on my Fiesta stayed on after I switched the engine off. I don't know whether it was the air-con or the cooling fan. I waited a bit and it was still running so in the end I got back in, started the car, then turned it back off- and this time the fan turned off.

I've had the car 2 years and it's never done it before.

I went into Ford this morning and they told me that if the car's pretty hot, the cooling fan is designed to stay on after the engine is switched off.

Can anyone confirm this is the case?

Thanks in advance...

cheers
FD

on the topic of fans. is it just my fez, or are other people's fans overly loud. it just seems odd that the my fan is so loud and prominent.

yeah mine's done that once...........
i was at school running late, turnd off car and ran out then i heard the fan.........looked back and like "WHAT???"
but then i walkd slowly and it went off so it was ok.........i suppose it is normal
Yeah it was pretty loud that time, and when i turn on the car to cool the car down before i get in, i hear the fan and yes it is quite loud then so should be normal =)

mine did it pretty much all the time..but i did kind of thrash it, and i would generally drive for long periods of time, so the engine would heat up, hence the fan going when the car is off..when i first noticed that it stayed on i thought it was kinds cool lol..like the cars that keep running when they've been turned off

Mine never went on ever. Even after drag racing and turning it off waiting in the queue.
