Default seen a force 8

i had parked my car in the shopping centre in kinaroy at lunch, walked in to get the newpaper, walked back out and seen the force 8 just sittin there just a couple of parks from my car. i tell ya i could not believe my eyes . i had a good look too. never expected to see one outside of dealerships and motorshows, little lone in kinaroy. for those of you not firmilar with kinaroy. it is a small town about 8 000 in popuation, as dry as a bone (level 7 water restrictions, go figure) and a loooong drive away from brisbane (try over an hour north west of toowoomba). if i owned a force 8 in kinaroy i would not be bringing it out and parking it in a shopping centre of all places...

I love the Force 8, very nice car. So many on this forum bagged it out. I kind of see it as an equivilant to the senator in the hsv range. If I were in the market for an FPV I'd most likely get a Force 6 or 8.

Did you capture it? Quite a rare sight in the wild, out of the safety of the dealership.

I have seen at least 3 of those, green and orange ones in Sydney, and the brown one at Bridwood Museum. My dad has saw all 69 (before they met the crusher), he used to work at Leyland. The real reason they canned them was that they failed the crash test. The standard door locks didn't hold the bigger doors and there was no money left to re-design them. Dad has the poster from Modern Motor of the brown one, taken at LaPerouse, on his wall. Big ugly hatchback. We used the carpet from behind the rear seat of one to carpet the back an Escort panel van.

Force 8 = yum
Red leather interior with black paint, (I think it was the first one off the production line). saw that one up here in Brisbane at a dyno day.
some people don't like them but yeah I like the understated look they have. (if you could call it that!)

The rarity is the reason it was bagged out, it was a pathetic effort by fpv at the time and remains just that.

Great car but to dear, should be priced between GT and GTP. For the same price as GTP it misses out on the 6 piston brakes and the GTP seats, but offers no more luxury.

I think it would be a hard choice between a GT and Force 8 if i had the cash for either, GT has the name but the Force is a rarer car on the roads, pity about the name sounds like it was named after the WA rugby team.

I wouldn't go that far.

I'd call it more...........confused than pathetic.

The red leather is garish and I imagine it'd be hard to live with after the 1st few months. The extra weight of the GHIA won't do the performance or the fuel economy any good, and the lack of any real image branding kinda leaves it all up in the air.

FORD should have done something like this for the FAIRLANE instead......it would have PIMPED up its overly conservative image, bolstered some sorely needed sales and quite possible may have saved its skin for an ORION based LWB evolution ??

And they could have sold 3 of them just like the T3 TL50. It would have been a total waste of money. If no one wants a Fairlane how many people do you reckon would want a more expensive FPV version. They were smart not to waste devlopment dollars on a dead duck. I don't even think Tickford sold 50 TL50's across the whole 3 series of them. It was certainly less than 100.

One of the guys in our club has a Force 8, build no 1, he has just recently had an intercooled yella terra whipple blower installed. Very nice.

I agree, they may not have sold thousands of them, but a Fairlane with 20 inch rims, lowered ride height, 290 Kw or F6 motor with some nice FPV body kit would have looked a treat with minimal R & D going on it. It would have been a "psychological" lift for the poor old LANE and a more logical evolution of the FPV line up.

As a guestimate, I reckon they mave have sold equivalent numbers to the FORCE 8 ??

The FPV branding has a better place in the public psyche than the Tickford stuff ever did. So I think a FPVL8 or L6 ( L for Long wheel base ) may have stood a chance.

Too late now I guess...............we'll never know.

I think they planned on selling 250 Force vehicles, and they increased that number once the initial orders came in more than they imagined. Thats a lot more than any Fairlane version would have sold, and it would not have required much R&D considering it just used bits and pieces from other models in the FPV and Ford range. An FPV Fairlane on the other hand would have required a unique suspension setup and other upgrades to fit the 4V engine to it, which would have cost a few million Ford didn't have. Even though it should be a straight fit, it would still require R&D due to the extra tailshaft length, different wiring loom etc.

At least there would be a market in the hire car industry for a nice Fairlane.
