Default Brocks Torana

Just read in the news Brocks torana sold for $500 000.

Brock's race car sold for $500,000
Wednesday Nov 29 06:04 AEDT

The car in which motor racing legend Peter Brock drove to victory in the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1974 has sold for a record price.

A Melbourne construction company owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, paid $500,000 for the Holden Torana, the highest amount paid for a Holden.

The Torana was owned by the family of former Holden Dealer Team mechanic Ian Tate.

The mystery owner said he saw the car in storage and had to buy it.

"The Tates wanted the car to stay in Victoria and I had been looking for that kind of car for a while," the man told News Limited.

Brock drove the car to victory in the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1974.

He also finished second at Bathurst in the car in 1973.

Brock died in an accident while taking part in the Targa West rally in Western Australia on September 8 this year.

You aren't paying for just a Torana.
You're paying for a car driven by arguably Australia's greatest racing car driver, Peter Brock. To jack up the price, he won something in it and went on to become a legend.
That's where the value is...not in the car, but in its history.

It's like a Mercedes C180. The car is the ultimate overrated piece of shit, but with that Mercedes badge comes implied prestige and luxury...but we all know better.

Almost as much as a "just bought at the car shop by an ordinary person" Phase 3 GTHO.

But then the Mona Lisa is nowhere near as good as an image from a 10Mp digital camera is it?

From new, there were 400 cobras. (How many left now?)

From what I know, there is only one 1974 Torana that Brock won the Australian Touring Car Championship in.

Mind you I would still take a Cobra over a Torana. Nicer interior. :P

I personnely wouldn't give you $100 for a pair of Cobra's! They were just a paint job & an interior!

Just my 2c.

Even if they were the ones that came in first and second in a little country race back in the 70's (hint, hint)? The one that came first was a bit sick, but still.....

The Cobra's never won Bathurst, they were a 1978 model, the 1977 bathurst 1-2 finish cars were XBGT's with XC front ends.

Okay. My bad, thanks for the correction.

I can remember watching it as a tacker at a friends house. He was a Ford man and my family was Holden. He ribbed me about it for weeks.
