Default Impreza WRX STi Spec C Type RA-R.

Impreza WRX STi Spec C Type RA-R.
Subaru’s skunkworks has revealed its latest project… And it ain’t exactly slow

This is the latest instalment in Subaru’s never-ending catalogue of go-faster versions of its iconic Impreza WRX.

The Fuji Heavy Industries mob’s tweaked specials invariably come with suffixes that use up most of the alphabet, and the newcomer doesn’t disappoint -- it’s known as the Impreza WRX STi Spec C Type RA-R.

Just 300 examples of the latest hottie are destined for showrooms, but before you start reaching for that chequebook, alas the RA-R is a Japan-only model. It’s a bit of a shame really, because its on-paper credentials sound rather tasty…

The 2.0-litre force-fed engine (the 2.5 isn’t offered in Japan) is supplemented by a bigger IHI turbo, reprogrammed ECU and a freer-flowing exhaust. Result? Robust outputs of 234kW at 6400rpm and 432Nm at 4400rpm -- well up on the 206kW/392Nm of the Oz-spec WRX STi. A six-speed manual is the only transmission offered.

Complementing the beefed-up powertrain is upgraded and retuned suspension, which lowers ride height by 15mm. The RA-R also scores white-painted 18-inch light alloy STi wheels wrapped in 40-series Bridgestone rubber, and a peek through the spokes reveals a quartet of six-piston brakes.

The car doesn’t shout its performance potential, as the body is essentially untouched, apart from a black front lip spoiler and roof vane. That said, an oversize carbon-fibre rear wing and BBS wheels are available as options.

A lurid yellow paint scheme will be offered, but it will be limited to 50 of the 300 cars. The other colours are Pure White (pictured) and WRC Rally Blue Mica, and all three finishes get a cherry red accent line that encompasses the centre grille’s inner surround.

The RA-R costs 4,284,000 Yen in its home market, which equates to around $47,650 in our money -- that’s pretty sharp buying when you consider a ‘standard’ WRX STi costs $57K here.

An all-new Impreza line-up is due to be revealed internationally next year, spearheaded by a WRX variant powered by a 2.5-litre turbo engine with up to 245kW, according to some sources.

Yeah! thats the one to get!

An inside rumor tells me it even comes with a little plastic pocket on the spoiler for the 'P' plate to sit in.

*meh*

Most of the punks driving these things around the street are prob making more than 234/432 (any reason why the kw/Nm figures are palendromic?? lol) with basic turb/exhaust mods wouldnt they?

I dont think it works quite like that does it? What does a std STi cost in JPY?

Oh I thought you were talking about this one:-

Complete with a 230bhp turbocharged 'flat' four engine, the 530kg quad has a power-to-weight ratio of 434bhp per tonne, or more than twice a normal Scooby's.
