Question Citroen Cactus

I know it's not a Ford, but we all like weird cars. I got one of these to review for a week and here's what I thought of it.
I had an absolute blast living with the car and at one point got 2.7L/100km! ( cruising at 90)

http://performancedrive.com.au/2016-...w-video-1722/#!

Interested to know what you think of the car and my article.

Good review! Was over in the UK last year & had a car similar to the Cactus(in the same category) a Renault Captur(I had "requested" a Focus.) but ... It again was quite an enjoyable drive 5spd,Diesel.Typical "quirky" French car. Oh & that b@&$¥y "stop start" function. All in all though I will try & rent another one when I fly back next year.(I could actually live with one of these.)

I like french cars. There I said it.

I have nothing but praise for our Picasso so far, I have taken it places where I am sure French Engineers didnt expect it to go. Went to the Bowen River Rodeo the other weekend..LOL

I get great mileage, a car that fits 7 and has some sort of style to it and once it gets going its not completely gutless.

Like any make there are some shockers, but id own any RS, GT220 etc

I'm not a fan of the bumble bee livery. Or French cars at all.
Apparently these cars have a 6 year warranty now. I couldn't believe that because the only Citroen I have ever had to deal with had nothing but problems.

Yeah I must admit the gearbox gave me the sh_ts, but if they went with a DCT or normal auto the fuel figures wouldn't have been as good, so you semi forgive it..

Have to say here that one of the sweetest little cars I ever owned was a Citroen.
Ever experienced a BX 16 Valve?
They beat Brocky in the 12 hour years ago when he was driving the factory Peugeots.
There is a video somewhere that Brocky took himself following the Citroen over the top of the mountain. He couldn't understand why they were so fast.

Look up the info, it's quite interesting.

Anyway, here's my old one.

Cheers,

A couple of months ago my wife & I were out shopping and one of these was on display. She liked it, I cracked up over the name "cactus" but oddly, so did the girl displaying it.

I'd buy my wife one tomorrow if that is what she would like and I think I like it enough to also drive it. (Agree with Tuf-302) It's a bit quirky but there's a lot worse out there!!

Oh and the article was well written too.

Yeah I just like cars that are different. I wouldnt mind a 407 Coupe for a daily, shame its FWD, RWD would have made it a nice car.

I have also been watching this for ages...

http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...D-467970/?Cr=0

Would to pretty cool rocking up to shows in that, there are turbo'd versions in the EU but parts would be a bugger. Half the fun though right?

Well written mate.
Just the facts, none of the opinionated rubbish that comes from the "major" reviewers these days.

It won't get you a job at Wheels though. (that's a good thing!)

Great review.

I'm a fan of these cars (without having driven one).
If they were an option a couple years ago when the girl was looking for a fuel efficient small car, i'd definitely have encouraged a test drive.

In my vocabulary "Cactus" means its busted beyond repair.
It also looks ridiculous, and the colour is hideous.
It's also a Citroen. Strike 3.

OR

Looking at it another way.

It's different.
It's colourful (not another boring black, white, silver, grey)
It's a Citroen.

Win win win.

Like the article. Like the Cactus.

You blokes need to stop watching Top Gear if you havent already.

Not everything needs 500kws and drift mode. For its intended purpose it does well.

Yep it's definitely the fact it doesn't have 500kws is why some people are not a fan.

Hardly. It looks stupid. Don't care how much power it makes if it looks like a noddy car.

Yeah it is and some people like a car that doesn't take it self seriously, or try to be the sportiest, most modern appliance, only to become obsolete one model year later.

Exactly it provides motoring fun in a novel, different way than dynamics/ powah. It has a real depth of character, but horses for courses. I have to admit, I am not sure I would own one if I had the money- only if I was forced to buy an 'SUV' but then again I'm a pretty odd dude.

I love how this car has a point of difference in the market place. The ethos has been to make the car simple and with a design that sets it apart. It will never just blend in like a CX-3 or ASX will.

BUT -

1. Its overpriced for what it is. Like all Citroen's (and Peugeot's for that matter). In Europe they are mainstream brands at budget prices. Yet somehow in Australia they are priced to be premium.

2. For a city focused vehicle the Cactus catastrophically let down by its powertrains. The petrol is manual only which is not a going to be city or target market friendly (aussies like auto's). That means people wanting an auto have to buy the diesel, an engine best suited to the open road and at odds for what is a city car. That auto is also a single clutch robotised manual that is widely regarded to absolutely terrible.
