Default ACL in Administration - Ford Bearings

http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...25761E0018F1FA

Out of curiosity, when you guys redo the bearings on your cars, do you always use OEM parts or do you use aftermarket? I know I always use aftermarket parts because OEM parts are so expensive.

Do you think it would help the business case of these suppliers if Ford or Toyota didn't lock them into sole-distributor rights? For example, if ACL could sell Ford Bearings through other distrbutors at market-competitive prices, rather than through Ford (or in the case of places like Sumitomo, through ASL for example) - who appear to always bump their prices to ridiculous prices?

Ford would still get to supply parts in insurance claims - which to me appears to be why they bump the prices so high. Or does the sale of parts make too significant a controbution to the FoMoCo bottom line?

Did you know that the bearing retaining nut on a BA Falcon costs $70 from Ford for example? $70 for a nut!?
