Default pine for something form childhood?

I miss my old Dragster from my childhood. everytime i see someone riding one (rare!) i stop them as ask how they got it etc. (for the younger people on this forum a dragster was the 70's most popular bike, before BMX was born)

they had a 3 speed shifter (just like an auto trans shfter).

is there anything you had as a kid you wish you still had?

I had a 5spd one it was the ducks guts wit ha tall sissy bar big ape hangers.

I'm ptuting together a girls dragster for my 6yo now and a bobber style dragster for my 8yo son

the girls one is pretty tame you know pink metalflake paint and streamers out the hand grips
the bobbers a bit differnt its running mountan bike handel bars a short old scool seat (the old ladys kind with the springs) its going to be flat black with pin striping

I guess I'm trying to reclaim the 70's

We had these things called "Click-Clacks" Basically was a piece of rope and on the end of each string was a pool/snooker ball. You cant get them anymore and they were banned because too many kids broke their wrists with them.. but I loved them. There was a set on Ebay about 12 months ago...sold for over $300.

The noise they made were great and I used to hit my brother with them if he got on my nerves...

Check this jphanna..... My first 20" bike at 5yo was a Malvern Star dragster. Mind you, this was 1986, but even though my mates had BMX's, I knew my bike was way cooler. about 15 years later the bug bit to acquire another, and it snowballed into an obsession. So I've been building full custom lowriders, using 70's long frame dragsters. The current one I'm working on has the lowrider forks but retains the 3 speed Sturmey Archer "coffin shifter" T-Bar, with hub gears. It's retrotech. But if you're pining for a dragster, I have several in various stages.

i appreciate the new age designs of the dragsters, they are as eye catching as a COBRA in the streets, but its that 3 speed shifter that makes or breaks it for me. that is the single part thats irreplacable.

LOL yeah its a nice thought for all of us older people.
buying milk choc cherry ripes, penny bungers (big fire crackers) and blowing PMG manhole covers 2 feet into the air with said bungers, knocking off dads 1"water pipe with the threaded end and capping ,it then putting a penny bunger in pipe and a stone or marble and firing it at corrugated shed blowing holes through shed, not colourbond either, the real steel curragated iron 1.2mm thick..
going shooting with mates ,just pull up at farms and being told "go for your life just dont shoot towards house ,dont scare the cattle and SHUT THE BLOODY GATES AFTER YOU,lol

In no particular order:-
- Driving onto a runway apron at a regional airport and being able to fuel up with Avgas straight from the pump, no questions asked.
- Buying fireworks and .22 ammo from the local Milk Bar.
- Snogging 3 chicks at one party as a teenager and not worrying about the morality of it (or lack of)
- Milk chocolate covered Cherry Ripes, yum
- Stuffing around with trucks and cars, "learning" to drive on my cousins farm. Ahh, my first case of opposite lock, dry hard dusty river flat...around and around and around in an old V8 XA...
- My Dad. A man's man, Camel ciggies, V8's, fishing. Being taugh proper blokes stuff, like cleaning rifles, gutting fish and using power tools.
- Building billy carts and finding a steep hill, say no more.

I can still smell the Camel ciggies...and the Avgas.

Oh yes

At 17 years of age. Buying a .303 SMLE in a second hand shop for 30 bucks in Rockhampton then walking down East Street with it into a gun shop and buying 100 rounds of ammo. No questions asked.

Ahhh getting the 1 lt glass bottles and handing them into the milkbar owner, all to get 20 cents, only to spend on lollies. Jeez what 20 cents used to buy......
Funny thing is, you would either knock it off from behind the milkbar or some of your neighbours.

We used to go down the back of the local Scout's hall and knock off those ones.

Them "Dragsters" where just a cheap imitation of the real dream 1970s bike, the Raleigh Chopper. I had a purple Mk2.

I think your right.
I remember that everyone at school had a dragster and only one guy had a CHOPPER. He was the considered the 'FONZ' of the school because of that.

(for the younger ones on this forum Happy days was a show about the 50's and the FONZ was 'COOL')

Only trouble is you could ride a dragster more than a few km's. The Chopper MK1 used to flip backwards way to easy.
