Rego went up at the end of last financial year.... was in all the papers, news, radio.
Er... so the rise is nothing new.
It was said over 18months ago rego will rise (and it did).

Didn,t you get your land valuation in the mail about a month ago - this is from the state gov't
My unimproved land valuation went from $134,000 to $201,000 in 1 hit so I expect my next rate bill in the new fin year will be sky high $600 a 1/4 isn,t bad enough already
Car rego UP
Electricity UP
Water UP
Wages - the same

Rates and water are council..... Yes the Land valuation comes from the state, but the council here has risen rates by 30% in 2 yrs. It is an "independant" council. We now have the 2nd highest rates in the country for a small town.

Again it comes down to the population not giving a toss, even when said council blatently LIES to the population about why rates keep rising.

Amazing some people dont see past "politics" and parties..... and whinge and bleat, oh lets blame this party for our woes.
Blind freddy can see that who ever enters power wont do a damn to change anything..... Why?

Because in reality the population doesnt care enough to do anything about it.
Whinging on here wont fix it...... voting them out wont fix anything.

I think rates at least are very regulated. They cannot go up above a certain %age per year (say 5-6% I think). Anything more and they need to ask for permission.

They really should stop these double digit increases for living expenses most must pay. Rents for those who rent are the highest they have ever been, and rates for those who have a mortgage are heading north at warp 9.... eventually something will have to give.

i think Mt Isa and Townsville went up around 8% last year.now they are talking about charging for water etc seperately.lucky for now they dont charge for bores yet lol,or id go broke watering my acre lol.

if a politician actually got in a car and drove from Brissy to Cairns and then from Townsville to Mt Isa and seen how fingered the roads in north and western Qld are id have so much more respect for them, but sadly they will never do that and our rego will never get better roads up here.one reason north of Rocky should be a seperate state.
our rego does include third party which other states pay seperately i think as stated in the qld rego thread a while back.

8% for what? (I thought everyone was whinging at the state gov here?)
But since we now are having a whinge about councils, I dunno what 8% rise you referring to?

25% rise in 2yrs here in Townsville since amalgamation.
Water is already capped to certain level of consumption in most major centers and you get charged excess water. So this isnt something new or changing.

The council here have blatently lied to the population about the rate rises, yet no one here gives a damn. They blatently spend money on pathetic and usless enterprises, instead of infrastructure.... yet again, no here gives a damn.

****ing and moaning on here doesnt fix the issue....

If nobody gets up and says NO, then they can get away with anything, and seemingly, they do.

..and yes, its been said many times before.....

qld is bloody expensive place now, blame anna bligh
we are still paying high water rates and now the dams are full again, for free from the sky but we pay for it, petrol is a frickn rip too, the oil price is lower than 2 yrs ago and the us $ is lower so our petrol should be chaper than 1 dollar /ltr .... tolls are a joke, electricty is next, we should all go on strike. beer is cheaper than bottled water

Um.. so petrol, oil is the state gov fault?

Water is now owned by corporate entities and not controlled by the state...
(yes the state sold them).

Its been said before but seemingly most people dont want to listen.
The constant whinging about "its this parties" fault... and we will "vote them out" is simplistic in attitude. This is why the population fails and successive governments always win.

The quicker people learn that voting them out DOES NOT CHANGE ANYTHING.
Whinging on here does not solve anything
Voting for the opposition does not solve anything
Unless people WAKE UP and start DOING something, then things will change.
But Australia is full of apathy more then ever.
And no one lifts a finger except a small minority.
And then they are ridiculed.

A classic example is the proposed sale of QLD assest like QLD RAIL.
I dont see any massive marches?
Where are the protestors?
All i see is a bunch of whingers on here lamenting how awful Bligh is... but i bet none of you would bother to march in protest to stand up for your rights.

Why would anyone want to make an effort?
Easy to whinge on a forum...... or pretend to care at ballot time

Blame the insurance companies - it's their premiums that form the majority of the price rise. Compulsory third party insurance is the highest component of registration costs.
