Default What brand Alternator to buy

There are many for sale on ebay for varying prices..
Are "Jaylec" just a rebranded chinese made cheapy?
Same as "Auto8" in Wangaratta?
How will I know if it is a quality item or not?

Jaylec is Cooldrive Distribution in house brand and its trash, its the ones I had the most warranty returns on,

OEX isn't bad as a Chinese cheapy replacement, they're NAPA's own in house brand.

Personally I'd stick to OEM brands like Bosch/Valeo/Marelli et al, not worth saving $20 to fit some Chinese piece of shit to the car.

Auto8 in Wang gives you a choice genuine Bosch or cheaper.

Wouldn't want to be up for a Merc/BMW one mind.

Bought both from their Wangaratta store along with a starter motor for the Falcon and a couple of spare ones for the Traders.

Still in use, lets put it that way. The Bosch is better.

Made the mistake of buying from Auto8. Even paid the extra for a bigger spec alternator for a Nissan big-6 diesel.
Failed after around 6 months, and when I contacted them for warranty, I was essentially told "don't bother."

You need to ship it back (at your cost) and wait for them to test it. Which, whilst inconvenient, seems straight-forward. However their customer service guy basically told me not to bother.

Either buy somewhere with a better returns policy, or buy from a physical store where you can take it back.

I bought a BOSCH from auto8.
Fitted it my AU XR8 and it got very very hot and shot a bearing.
Returned it under warranty and got another, I'm hoping this one will be ok.
I put in a code on the box to check if it's genuine, Checked out as genuine so fingers crossed.
