Default Revenue Raising at its best

Got this in an email this morning from a workmate. Don't know how true this is but located in the SE QLD area.

Thoughts?

Issues?

Death threats???

Thought it wasn't true in a sense but shows it can be done.

We could have Annual Knock over a Bin Day and whoever nails the speed camera wins!!!

Partly correct....

The top two photos (GREEN bin) were from SA in 2005.
The bottom two photos (BLACK bin) are from overseas, notice the minivan in the RH lane driving away from the camera.

Nope South Australia.
In QLD you can get fined for leaving your bin on the street.

In pretty much every city of Australia you can get fined for leaving the bin out for more than 24hrs.

Perhaps the council fined them 1000 GBP for putting the bin out early

I remember being outside Anaconda in Bayswater one night (I think its on Canterbury rd) and this thing was faulty as it would go off when cars were taking off from the light. Mind you it went off that many times it actually took out the power in that area.

Big light show that night...well until the power went out. lol

Wont happen, people will ruin it. Just put rubbish in it which just happens to be many half full water bottles and say you thought it was a normal garbage.

I love when they pull out that line. It should read;

"We are doing everything in our power in relation to revenue raising cameras. Fixing roads and training drivers is not in our plan to cut road deaths and carnage. That's just crazy talk"

Who was the person who invented the speed camera? Hope that it wasn't an australian. I would like to pay respects to that person by doing number 1 and number 2 on his grave.

From wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic...camera#History)
Quote:
The concept of the speed camera can be dated back to at least 1905; Popular Mechanics reports on a patent for a "Time Recording Camera for Trapping Motorists" that enabled the operator to take time-stamped images of a vehicle moving across the start and endpoints of a measured section of road. The timestamps enabled the speed to be calculated, and the photo enabled identification of the driver.[47]
The Dutch company Gatsometer BV, which was founded in 1958 by rally driver Maurice Gatsonides, produced the 'Gatsometer'.[48] Gatsonides wished to better monitor his average speed on a race track and invented the device in order to improve his lap times. The company later started supplying these devices as police speed enforcement tools.[49] The first systems introduced in the late 1960s used film cameras to take their pictures. Gatsometer introduced the first red light camera in 1965, the first radar for use with road traffic in 1971 and the first mobile speed traffic camera in 1982;[48]
From the late 1990s, digital cameras began to be introduced. Digital cameras can be fitted with a network connection to transfer images to a central processing location automatically, so they have advantages over film cameras in speed of issuing fines, maintenance and operational monitoring. However, film-based systems may provide superior image quality in the variety of lighting conditions encountered on roads, and are required by courts in some jurisdictions. New film-based systems are still being sold, but digital pictures are providing greater versatility and lower maintenance and are now more popular with law enforcement agencies.[50]

Here we go again. Not long ago a girl on Facebook posted one of these pictures thinking the QLD police are doing it right now. As we know this is NOT happening in QLD and in fact it was actually in SA back in 2005.

As a concerned citizen I would pick up the bin and take it back to the council dump just like I would for wandering shopping trollies.

Of course I would wash the insides first with sea water......

wash with sea water?.. come on. I'd go to a farm and ask for some horse urine, pig manure and cow dung to 'wash' the bin with. Then take it to the council dump.

Does anyone know what happens if you report a speed camera car as a stolen and abandoned car? or better still, ring the AFP and report a suspicious looking vehicle.

A rego check is done on the vehicle, and the job is cancelled.

As of today. Maitland Rd Mayfield has 2 fixed cameras in the space of 300 metres.

Ones a speed camera, the other was today chaged from a red light camera to a safety camera.
If that is not revenue raising I don't know what it is.

Safety cameras are anything but safe. Plus having 2 cameras that close seems like a case of revenue raising.

Perhaps its make people think anytime/anywhere, not just for a few metres when they go past a camera.

Could be to beat the cretons that flash people coming the other way, they have flashed you, you slow down, go past the camera, phew, then speed up again.....gotcha!

Nope, its because they're upgrading the old film red light camera's to digital. And the digital camera's have the capability to record speed as well.

They've also upgraded the camera in the intersection next to the Newcastle Football Stadium (two digital camera's) and have put in another one at the intersection of Stewart Ave (old HWY) and Parry Street. Those are just the ones i've noticed.

They can be recognised because the sign says "Safety Camera Ahead" instead of "Red Light Camera Ahead".
