Default First drive: SRT-8 spells hammertime for 300C!

Chrysler breaks out the steroids and stripes with a ballistic new 300C SRT-8 mega-V8
HSV... FPV... SRT... Buyers of big, brutish V8 performance sedans now have a new acronym (Street Racing Technology) to acclimatise to. And the 300C SRT-8, on sale now from $71,990, is quite the bahn stormer.

By shoehorning a larger V8 into its Trans-Atlantic luxury-liner for a 25 per cent increase in power over the previous V8 range-topper, Chrysler hopes to lure around 300 potential purchasers of the $70K HSV Senator and FPV GT-P.

Well if I was in the market for something around that price range, I'd definitely be test driving that, a Typhoon and a GT-P. Then again, there's a few Euros I wouldn't mind checking out too.

I want that engine in a VJ Charger. With a 6 speed manual. mmmmmm

I wouldnt mind having a drive of one of them suckers but aparently you cant test drive them. And i dont think theyd let an 18 year old test drive a normal one either!

SRT street racing technology - wonder what Scruby will think of that. same with the police ministers & cheifs, It's not the best naming in today's anti hooning society.

Personally I love it, and cant wait for Ford and Holden to make sure they are ahead of the yanks...

Top Stuff, this is really top stuff, MOPAR fans have been waiting since 1981 and what a long wait it was. It really livens up the market, unfortunately for me i could just about afford one in a few years, but i dont think i can afford the fuel MDS or no MDS (ill chalk done the diesel wagon as one to watch though). But damn in Black with tinted windows, its the pimped bentley for the masses.

And i think SRT is a top name for the performance vehicles and im betting the yanks will tell scruby to go get bent if he makes a fuss.

*And finally SRT Wagon- OMG that will be bloody awesome it will make the VYSS looks like a joke and it might shame Ford into doing atleast some minimal work to the Falcon wagon.

Hello Ford/Holden/FPV/HSV? Are you listening? THIS is how a proper V8 sedan should be.

For the price it simply hangs a large guff on any of the local V8 offerings. Period. :

wow I am agreeing with the holden guy... :alien2:

I have heard this too, it will be the typical american setup I think, that and the interior quality will probably be the two things bringing it down. But its not like Ford and Holden are any good at quality either, they just have better ways of hiding it.

There is a comparison in the new Wheels mag...I picked the new one up today, haven't read it yet though...

EDIT: still I loved them, just incase I was giving off the wrong impression

I guess I'll let you all know next week when mine finally lands back in Melbourne!
The interior looks to be well screwed together but that'll happen if you build in Austria rather than Canada which is where the RHD ones come from.
The main issue with the handling seems to be caused by the Nivomat self levelling rear shocks that are expensive and ineffective but a set of adjustable Bilsteins to match the front ones will help that no doubt.

Time will tell.

Cheers
Russ

To me, it looks un-Australian. I still reckon it looks like Tony Soprano's staff car.

Mine is taking a more circuitous route - the first Vic deliveries were done 2 weeks ago, The Sandy coloured one would be a standard 300C as the SRT8 isn't available in that colour.

Cheers

Russ I can guarntee you that it was a SRT8...my missus was driving (I was in the front) and it was on the back of a flat top going on the monash freeway, perhaps it wasn't the sandy colour....but it was like it (colour).

It had all the badges and duel exhausts aswell, do standard 300C's get them?

Both models have the dual exhausts - the SRT8 carries a rectangular badge saying that on the RHS of the boot lid and has a small boot lip spoiler. Colour choices here are Black, Silver and Mineral Grey.

It takes balls to make something that looks different, but when its done right it works well; 300C is just that. Want to make a statement and standout, a good looking 300C will crack more necks that a commy or falcon.
