The auto industry bodies (VACC & RACV) are just trying to drum up business for their members, there is not statistical reason to have annual roadworthies.

All true. The simple fact is unroadworthy cars simply don’t show up as the cause in fatal accidents. Any move to yearly roadworthy inspections would be a political move.
